Aren't you saving the company money by driving and not paying the higher costs for airfare, taxi, etc.? Ask them and they might be willing to foot the bill for the parking expenses.

Help from those living in Ottawa
I'm going to Ottawa this Sunday for a week on training and decided to drive there.
I'm staying at the Sheraton Ottawa Hotel (http://www.sheraton.com/ottawa). The company is paying for the hotel.
I just found out that parking there costs 20.00 a day and I don't think my company will pay for parking, as it was my choice to drive, instead of flying.
To those living in Ottawa, is there cheap or free parking nearby the hotel? I appreciate any help.
Thanks...

I'll try, but the course will take place 500 meters from the hotel. I was the one who decided to drive and they do pay for the mileage.
Just trying to avoid paying over 100.00 from my pocket (not to mention the Internet costs, as well)

It depends on how flexible the company is, I guess. Good luck!

Downtown parking is relatively expensive in Ottawa. I think if you're willing to walk for 5-10mins, you may be able to find some outside lot that will let you park for $10-15/day along O'Connor and Glouster. Afterall, early bird parking in the down town lots ranges from $10-12 from 8-6.

One place I've always parked in the summer is near the St. Laurant shopping centre.. it's just a few busstops away from the downtown. Never parked there overnight or during the winter, but it doesn't seem to be monitored or anything.. it's just across the street from the parking garage of st. laurant centre... just requires a quick bus ride downtown on the 95

Feb 10th, 2006 08:56 PM #9Someone ripped the rims right off from somebody I know in the St-Laurent shopping mall parking. Now obviously i don't think the OP is gonna drive and park a bling-bling car but there's some free parking in the side streets around the University of Ottawa, if there's no sign it's good for 3 hours.

Thanks everyone.
The Sheraton was booked, as well as several hotels near the place of the event (probably because of the Winterlude).
The only hotel they could book was the "Residence Inn - Marriott".
Parking there is CAN 13.00 a night. I think I'll just park there.

Actually, if you stay at the the Crown Plaza, Travel Lodge, Delta, Marriott. Parking on that "Side" of downtown is cheaper. There are free street parking during the evening, and there are day time parking that is around $8/day.
