Help unlocking iPhone 3GS iOS 5.1, basband 05.16.05

Hi.

I'm only asking after I have spent hours trying to figure this out. I can't seem to find a way to unlock my phone, please share any tips or advice you may have. Here are some specs:

iPhone 3GS
Year 2009 Week 41
Modem Firmware: 05.16.05

Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

You could update the baseband to the iPad baseband 06.15.00 using redsn0w and then use redsn0w to downgrade it to 5.13.04

Is it really risky in terms of bricking my phone? Better to go to pmall and do it instead?

Super simple. Its not risky if you read instructions. Someone at pmall could brick it though more than you would. I spent over 3 years restoring iPhones and it was hell on earth but very rewarding and I learned alot about Cydia, iOS environment,and programmming. If you need this right away then don't bother, but if you got a week to sit down and read up, you're set.

That model may not even be possible, you have to also find out about that... some 3gs bootroms are tricky.

I have done prolly 10-15 iphone3g using the iPad baseband method. Some lose GPS functionality --- hence the recently new downgrade which is a marvellous feat on behalf of iPhoneDevTeam.

Read up on the Redsn0w versions for the upgrade to 06.15.00 baseband, i wouldn't recommend downgrading if you dn't need GPS, otherwise the downgrade aint too bad.

Also you need find the ipsw for 4.2.1 which is all over the (ipsw felix) is a good term.

I'd recommend going back to 3.1.3 afterwards... unless you have SHSH blobs you will have a ridiculous time restoring 4.xx firmware onto a 06.15.00 baseband phone.

Goodluck. Read up on DFU mode as well, iReb is a great tool for putting into DFU mode with greenp0isn sploit.

You can pay Rogers $50 to permanently unlock vs software unlock.

There are SIM card hardware addons you can buy for cheap that unlock the SIM card. The card sits in the special tray and allows the SIM to work on any phone/carrier/

I think you can call them. It doesn't hurt to give them a call before head out to a store. I know it's possible to do it on the phone for Telus.

I did of course, but all the resources out there are for phones before week 28 and mine is week 41
