Wait for the 45nm Phenoms, but I don't know when they're coming out though.
A little birdy told me they're actually pretty good.

Help with upcoming upgrade @ end of month plz
1st off AGAIN, not interested in a Intel or nvidia product.
K, I have a limited budget/income & below you see my setup I am mulling over 2-3 options that I believe I can do of course - the perspective's resell value. I game alot, as well as multitask in the mega tasker side of things.
the options are:
1. Phenom X4 9850 BE Apx. $270 shipped - sell of 5600+ est. $100 shipped.
2. OCZ platium 4 gig kit of DDR2 800 ram $120 - sale of 2 gig kit est. $40 shipped.
3. Radeon HD 4850 $230 shipped - $140 for HIS IceQ3 Radeon 3870 shipped.
or wait for other products to come out 45 nm phenom/4870 & just bank the money till then ?
I know I would definatly utilize the 4 gigs of ram right now & the quad core. but can't do it all at once like I'd like to do.
Ultimatly its gotta be what is gonna be most feasable productionwise to what I do each day as well as for the lowest cost out of my own pocket.
thoughts ??
thanks

Are you sure you'll benefit from the extra two cores?
Are you doing a lot of encoding or something?
Although you seem opposed to overclocking, it would be the smartest thing to do now as it would not cost you anything. Even in the rare case that your parts do fail, they are worth a lot less now.
For the price you'd be paying for phenom, I don't think it's worth it unless you really need those extra two cores.
Upgrading your video card would be a good idea seeing that will be gaming are a relatively high resolution.

Sorry, I think I missed the reason(s) why you are not interested in Intel and nVidia. May I ask why ?
Coz if you have limited budget, you should NOT go with Phenom X4 9850 for $270. Performance-wise, it is only inline with the $200 (in Q3) Q6600. Also, in Q3, the new 45nm C2Q Q8000 series (to replace C2Q Q6000) will be released at the same $200 price point.
That alone saves you $70. And this $70 can cover half the cost of a decent mobo. You can cover the other half by selling your existing mobo.
Again, I do not know why you don't want Intel ... but I am just trying to look at your situation at the price/performance point of view.

1. I'd really say try for a Q6600 (I know you don't like intel and i don't want to bead a dead horse) but $270 would buy you a Q9300 and it would just destroy the X9850.
2. Good kit ... no problems there .. for the price I'd do it anytime. Just remember you'll need 64bit OS to see all 4GBs
3. I'd say wait it out for 4870 #'s .. it be out in about a week and should be a good jump, if you have the money I would go that route. Otherwise the 4850 is a great card (I already got one for my HTPC)._______________

Not interested in intel's solutions.
I have what I have for the purpose of future upgrading I would be doing in the future @ less cost then on a intel side.
Yes I do ALOT of gaming but also alot of DVD ripping/converting so that is why I was thinking of a phenom.
Yes IF I get a phenom I would oc it to get at least a 2.8 clock on it. I am not TOTALY aposed to oc'in I just see it as not nessicary to do or " must " do it._______________Phenom II X6 1090T @ 4 Ghz/2.4 Ghz NB-Cpu | Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H | Mushkin Blackline "Frostbite" DDR3 1600 16 gigs

Hey Terry. Glad to hear your upgrading soon. Here are my thoughts.
1. Depending on what you plan on doing, I think it might be a better idea to stick it out for the 45nm Phenom. board123 says that they're quite good and I tend to trust his judgement on AMD/ATI related stuff. It can't hurt to wait a while longer especially for improved performance and I would assume power consumption and thermals.
2. That OCZ kit seems pretty good and you can probably find it for around $70-80 after MIR. If you don't want to deal with MIR though, there's this 2x2GB set of G.SKILL modules I've been looking at that don't seem too bad that are rated for 1000MHz operation. They're only $88.99 at Memory House. Another option is Mushkin Redline or Ascent which are both around $120-ish (sometimes they have MIRs as well). They're a bit pricier but worth every penny IMO. The OCZ is fine though.
3. It's probably going to be maybe a week or so until the Radeon HD 4870 comes out so I'd wait until then to make a decision on what to buy. If the performance is good and the price is right then it might be worth going that route. According to reports though it's about 20% better than a 4850 and going with early pricing from PCV, I don't know if it's worth an extra $129 over the 4850 for that extra 20%. I guess we'll have to wait and see how this plays out.
Good luck with your decisions!

I know I've been pretty damn accurate with my "predictions" in the past, but this time don't take my word for it. I know very little about the 45nm Phenoms simply because there's very little information passed around about it. They're being extremely secretive about the 45nm generation.
I meant exactly what I said. "A little birdy told me" they're good. How good? I have no idea. And no, I'm not purposely hiding information from you guys. I really don't know.
