Personally I would go with the 360. It's been out for over a year, has a good base of games, future games look good and the price is the best it's been ever.

It depends on what kind of games you like. Don't base your purchase on processing power, the PS2 was the clear underdog in the last generation in that area, but the games are what matters and made the PS2 such a hit.
What kind of games do you like to play? For online play, the 360 is the best option. The 360 also has many titles available since it's been out for over a year. The 360 and PS3 graphics are quite similar.
Before you make a decision and buy a system i recommend to try out the Wii, it is quite different and unique gaming experience you can't find anywhere else.

As far as current game lineup and the game lineup for the next year or so, I'd say Xbox 360 is poised to beat the PS3. After that, we'll see. If Sony can get enough of an installed base and some killer exclusives, they might be able to start turning the tide.
What kind of games do you play? The 360 is heavy on shooters and sports games, low on RPGs. I'd say it's stupid to buy a PS3 now, there's nothing to play for it except Resistance, which by most accounts, isn't anything groundbreaking. So either buy a 360 now or just wait and see what happens over the next 6 months, that's my recommendation.
The best games currently out for the 360 are: Gears of War, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and probably Viva Pinata. Look those games up, and find out if they sound like games you'd want to play. Sports games are available on many platforms, but the consensus is that they look and play better on 360.

I went to a WHOLE bunch of stores this weekend (Started X-mas shopping) and no joke, I can't find many PS3 displays, all toy r us had a convenient Wii set up outside of the glass display and I asked where are the PS3 accessories and games and they're not carrying much. How is Sony gonna beef up accessory sales if their stores don't carry it out and display it?
Then again, I heard Nintendo gives retailers a nicer cut on revenue and games as opposed to PS3 which is nickel and diming everyone since they are already losing $300 on each console.

If you're a techie, I'd say PS3 has much more potential. There's just so many more cool things you can do with it (make sure you buy the 60gb w/ built in wifi)
The xbx360 is a slightly better deal, but factor in the cost of buying a wifi adapter, larger HD, and xbox live subscription fees._______________Heatware: spikyazn (11-0-0)

isnt a new version of 360 comming out using the 65nm technology which will make it cooler?
If i remember correctly it comes out in february? and there are rumors of a price drop so if i were u i would wait a little be longer to get a 360.
I personally have had too many problems with 360 so i got a ps3 and it runs smoooth as silk.
Just needs some better games, but thats always the same with every launch console.

It's all about the games really. PS3 will have a lot of rpgs, and games with alot of artistic flair to it. 360 has a lot of shooters and sports games. 360 will probably always have better on line support. PS3 games will probably look more impressive in a years time. It's a tough one to call. For fun games now, get a 360. If you plan to invest in the future, get a PS3. Good luck.
