Look through the different sites. Tripcentral is good for comparison. You're question about good deals though is tough ad a good price to you might be expensive to others. If it's 3.5 star a d you're not picky I'd wait for last minute or maybe a couple weeks prior. If you have a resort in mind than book if the price is in you're budget.

Maybe slapping the guys who make the website will help with that.

I mean right now you can get 7 nights at the Bahia Principe in Puerto Plata (4star) for less than $500/person (including taxes).

You can go to Santiago de Cuba (Carisol Corales, 3 star & 7 nights) for $350/person (including taxes).

There's also the NH Krystal Laguna in Cayo Coco (4 star, 7 nights) for $430/person (including taxes).

Or how about the Riu Jalisco (Riviera Nayarit, 5 star, 7 nights) for $675/person (including taxes).

You could also fly to Rome, Munich or Paris for $600 (both ways including taxes).

There is thousands of amazing deals out there on these sites. The thing is, you can't always get to somewhere obscure for cheap.

Flying to Asia or Africa can be very expensive, as well as many of the areas in the Caribbean and South America that don't really cater to the resort style vacations.

You aren't going to find a flight to these places for $500 including taxes, it just doesn't happen (and on the off chance it does, it's gone within minutes).

We have bought an annual plan from TD Canada Trust for the past couple of years. For 5 of us it is less than $200. It covers all the usual stuff and is less than buying insurance for one trip. We are covered for 365 days from date of purchase.

Travel counselor? That's a first for me lol.

Travel agents are a waste of time. Why would I trust someone who probably hasn't been at the resort they are trying to boom for you? With sites like tripadvisor Id rather have first hand and recent experiences to help me pick a resort. The only time they come in handy is with large groups and coordinating all the flight and such if it's not all inclusive. Oh and they can usually tell u how many seats are left. Even then I just call an agent I've googled, ask them if there alot of seats and then book myself on a site like itravel for petro points.
