I'm a huge fan of Hibiki but the 17. I have seen the Hibiki 21 in Japan for 12,000 yen. About $150. The Hibiki 17 is 6,000 pretty much everywhere.

I usually use thewhiskyexchange.com for price comparisons. For single malt scotches I will multiply 2.1-2.3 directly to the GBP to CAD without going through an exchange rate. For Japanese I use 1.8-2.0 from past Japanese prices here. So Hibiki is 500GBP there which means $900-1000CAD is fair. Just like Irish whiskey in Ireland, Japanese whisky is usually more expensive in Japan than abroad.

The Hibiki 21 may be expensive today but i have seen it at 12,000-15,000 yen in Japan.

Whiskies in Japan are very cheap because of low taxes. The Average Hibiki is about $75 in Japan, 6,000 yen. However, I am told that there is a shortage of Hibiki due to strong international demand. Suntory is now making only the 12 year-old.
