Forgot to mention - downtown Richtree market used to have an all-you-can eat dessert buffet after 10pm or something. Dunno if they still offer it.

There's also tons of places downtown (hotels), but you may want to also check Moroco Cafe.

dessert and pastry variety wasn't too good..they had everything on one table. About 5 or 6 types of cakes, a plate of sandwiches (egg salad, ham, tuna, turkey) which was really a slice of bread cut into 3 rectangle pieces, a big bowl of fruits (canteloupe, strawberry, blueberry, pineapple, honeydew, raspberry, blackberry), cream puffs, banana bread. No scones!

Choice of coffee/tea included..we got green tea, it was Starbuck's Tazo brand. They just kept refilling the pot with water but did not change the tea bags.

It was $13.99/person. The quality of the desserts were ok but the variety wasn't that good...and the cakes make you so full that you can't eat that much anyway! i had a very light lunch and i had one plate of cakes and 2 small plates of fruit..i was done. For what this was...i would say its not worth $13.99

Is it really all you can eat? :cheesygri Do they actually replenish the food? Oh, and since the area is densely populated by chinese, just out of curiosity, is the clientele almost all chinese?

If you are looking for high-tea around the Richmond Hill and Markham Area then you must check out "The Old Curiosity Tea Shop" and possibly "Ruelo". Upon the two I found The Old Curiosity Tea Shop is a more traditional English tea shop. You will be amaze by the environment and their food. High tea at The Old Curiosity Tea Shop requires reservation to be made. Ruelo is great too but more expensive compare with The Old Curiosity Tea Shop. You can read out more about these shop at http://cctastingmenu.blogspot.com/

Yes it's all you can eat..you approach a table with desserts and they replenish if the entire cake is almost done. They didn't replenish the sandwiches. As I said..there were only a few tables..can't really conclude about the clientele. But when I was there, two tables were chinese and the other table was white. Thats all.

How much does the afternoon tea cost at the Old Curiosity Tea Shop? The website makes it sound really nice but no prices.

It's not in the Markham/Richmond area, but for other tea lovers, the Windsor Arms hotel close to Yorkville has an awesome tea.

I've been to tea @ the Old Mill, the Tea Room in Streetsville, Cheateau Frontenac - Quebec and Chateau Laurier - Ottawa. Haven't tried the King Edward or Royal York yet.

So far, Windsor Arms and Chateau Laurier were by far the best.

I don't remember exactly. I paid about ~$45 including tax and tips for 2 people. They didn't list out the price on their website either http://www.cuppa.ca/ but you can always call (905-472-9927) to check out.

Ruelo is okay too. It is only $9.99/person (min 2 people) to share the same tray of high tea. However it just didn't filled up my stomach.

My friend tried out MoRoCo in Yorkville area and the food looks good. I checked out their menu and it is $55. I am not sure how many people can share it. http://www.morocochocolat.com/afternoon ... chmenu.pdf

I'm no expert, but I think high/afternoon tea originated as a British activity wherein they enjoy tea in the afternoon along with some snacks such as small sandwiches and scones. Dessert buffet is just that, a huge buffet spread of just DESSERTS!

I've checked out a few afternoon tea places around Toronto and I've written a few blog posts on them, so feel free to check them out. With Mother's Day around the corner, I think taking mom out to afternoon tea would be a great gift!

Maybe its just too costly to do just dessert...

i didn't see any when i went... just cakes, scones and sandwiches. all the cakes taste more or less the same but you get what you pay for considering it's only $15.

If anyone has been to the Hilton recently and can confirm that there are macarons that would be greatly appreciated!
