Highway/road debris.. what would you do?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXjbOIEi__Q
This was on the 401W tonight at ~1:30 am near exit 312 close to the Milton area, while going ~120 in the left lane. Do you guys try to avoid dead animals/debris/stuff like this on the road? I didn't even see it until the last moment, I think it must have been an animal or some sort.. and by the time I saw this I had to swerve to avoid destroying my front lip/bumper. What do you guys do driving cars with lower ground clearance?
EDIT: Reviewing the video again I noticed tire marks a few secs I even saw the thing on the road, could my headlights be aimed a bit low? I adjusted them previously but didn't want to blind oncoming traffic, but should my lights be aimed a bit higher? Note the yellow are not my low beams, they're my fogs.

The video will always look worst than real life. With that said, what kind of car do you have?
maybe you should consider outfitting your headlights with HIDs.
and if you see major debris on the highways that may cause accidents, call *OPP (*677) and let them know.

Well this has probably been the closest call yet, I haven't seen an animal on the highway before.
Actually my car comes with factory HIDs, the video doesn't really show the lights well but they do aim a bit further, I was just wondering how someone saw it so much earlier than I did, but it could very well be one of the 18 wheelers in front of me (with the tire marks on the ground).

I drive aound debris. Also the reason why you saw it late is because you were simply speeding!

If you look at the video again, there is someone pulled over just past the dead road kill. They probably hit it and had to pull over

Well it's past midnight on a basically empty highway.. I'm sure going at 100 would have resulted in the same thing.

Newbie
I usually swerve to avoid the debris if the road is empty (i.e. late at night) and I am fully aware that there are no cars around me. If it is busier I'd probably just suck it up and drive over the debris and hope there is minimal/no damage. Better to take minimal damage and avoid a larger potential multi-car accident.
Why were you driving in the left lane if there was no one close to you?

The worst debris are (shredded) truck tires. Those thing shredded into pieces and are littered for across the roadway a few hundred meters and sometimes they are very difficult to swerve around, that's why don't follow the car ahead of you that closely.

I kinda meant for the video to show what was on the road and not for people to pick on other things in the video. But if you really wanted to know, I was in the middle lane the entire time.. in the beginning of the video you see that, but upon seeing two 18 wheelers ahead holding both middle/right lanes I changed left to pass them (instead of riding up to their a** then changing lanes and possibly getting more stone chips on my front end) and like bobblehead said I have been next to a 18 wheeler when their tires literally explode like a gunshot, so I never follow big trucks closely especially if there's room for me to change lanes.
