Hit my car and Run
I have a dilema:
I parked on the street while visiting a friend, and when I left I noticed that another car had bumped into my car, messed up the mirror and made a large dent and scratch in the door.
I picked up some shards of a tail light from the ground - as evidence...
A week later I went back and noticed the neighbor's car had a damaged tail light and bumber.
When I approached him, he denied that it was his car and refused to take part in any negotiation.
So - what do I do now? Call the police? I don't want to get my insurance co. involved because it's a relatively small damage.

ask him nicely to settle privately.
then tell him that you have a piece of his tail light as evidence.
the rest of the damage will speak for itself.
ask him again if he would like to settle privately.
don't be afraid to go through insurance. hit and run comes out of your comprehensive coverage._______________ITEMS FOR SALE

Your case, unfortunately, is pretty much dead. Similar thing happened to me a few years ago except the guy hit my car at an intersection and he tried to run away so I chased him for a while in down town but he fled like a thief knowing that I was behind him. So I copied down his licence plate number, the colour and make of his car, and the descriptions of the driver and th passenger for reporting to the police station as a hit a run case. The police took my report in and then tracked the guy down at his house and found out that he did not have valid insurance(no wonder he did not remain). the police could not do anything about it because they could not prove he was driving without insurance, and nor they could prove his car hit mine even with all the specific details I had provided them. I reported to my insurance company then and the lawyer of my isurance company sent him letters to collect the deductible twice, but he ignored them. My insurance company said they could do nothing about it at all. Therefore, I had to pay for the deductible myself, $250, but at least the insurer did not raise my premium since I had reported to the police as hit and run. I was very very upset though since it took me hours to report to the police and then those time consuming correspondeces with my insurance company. People are just inconsiderate when they drive without insurance.

Shards of glass might still eb hard to prove. Hopefully you'll have some paint chip on your car. Do what actng said. You'll be fine with a comprehensive claim. It'll cost you whatever the deductible is and that should be all

At the very least, I'd recommend you take pictures of both the cars.

If you are sure it was him, accidently bash his car with a sledge hammer. When he comes around, simply shrug and act like you dont know what he is talking about.
