My HMA expired and went to renew, to my pleasant surprise it is 24% off regular price of $78.66. On sale for 24 more days...
They also have discounted 1 month to $9.99 and 6 month to $39.99.
Great product. I use it for access to US content blocked in Canada, secure access at public hotspots, among other things.

Got caught performing criminal activities...
It is almost impossible to be completely anonymous for the average user. None log where you are going and doing but do log when you connect and your IP.
Check the fine details in the privacy agreements. With a subpoena they will rat you out in an instant. These services just make it harder to find you. If you are located in Canada, using a UK company, with VPN servers in Sweden, going to a site in the US. That is 4 subpoenas, in four countries.

In terms of numbers of servers and maturity of product, HideMyAss is hard to beat. They have US servers pretty close to the border (Scranton, Albany) which is convenient for accessing US-only websites.

How is the speed on HMA?
I have been using IPVanish and it's fantastic for speeds. (I think that is partly because they are relatively new so don't have a ton of traffic on their systems)
I have done HD streams on some US and UK video services without troubles.

Their 12 month price is $75, so a bit more. Just wonder if speed suffers much if you go with something cheaper?

I recently purchased a year subscription to TunnelBear (Toronto based company) for like $40. I use it on my android tablet to open up the U.S catalogue for Netflix. Speeds have been decent enough to stream movies flawlessly without buffering. Since this is my primary usage, I've been very happy with the price and service. I also have it installed on my home computer but don't really use it there so can't comment.

I actually signed up to this last week without realizing the bad publicity (friend showed it to me after). I don't intend to hack Sony or join the lulz anytime soon so it doesn't concern me too much LOL.
