The Hobbit The Battle of the Five Armies (third film renamed)

The original subtitle "There and Back Again" has been ditched for the more action-oriented "The Battle of the Five Armies"

Sounds good? Better not have some lame flaming pine-cone action.

The second one was sooo bad that my friend fell asleep and slept through the whole thing.

It might have been different for Tolkien geeks but I'm not one of them.

I'm a bit of a Tolkien geek, as in a fan of the books - that's why I steered clear of these useless movie cash-ins. Peter Jackson has no clue when it comes to Tolkien's style, he's only in it for the money.

Here's a rare interview with Christopher Tolkien who has edited and curated his father's writings since his death in 1973.
Invited to meet Peter Jackson, the Tolkien family preferred not to. Why? "They eviscerated the book by making it an action movie for young people aged 15 to 25," Christopher says regretfully.

That's fine for the first 10 minutes, but what about the other three and a half hours?

I'll watch it.

Its just hard because its less of an epic story.

And I'm not a real fan of the actor playing Bilbo - not that he is terrible, but didn't make the same connection as with Frodo.
