Home Gym - Power or Half Rack/Workout Bench/Weights/Mats
So I've decided to get a home gym set up at my girlfriend's house but I was having some trouble finding suitable equipment at a good price. Suggestions would be much appreciated. What I need:
- A power or half rack for squatting and benching (preferably self-spotting). A chin up bar is a bonus but a lat pulldown mechanism would be better. A cable system is also a plus, and so is a smith machine (but it still must still have the squat rack for free weights). A weight tree/holder is also a giant bonus.
York half rack - $185 (doesn't include the bench)
Powertec half rack with pull down bar and adjustable bench - $599
- An adjustable bench that goes nicely with the rack.
- A ~300lb bar + plates weight set (olympic or standard, doesn't matter).
Cap 300lb olympic weight set
York 300lb olympic weight set
- Adjustable dumbbells. I don't have the space or money for a seperate dumbbell set.
- Thick floor mats.
I'm looking to spend about $1000-1200 for everything new. Should be about $400 for the weights (barbell + dumbbell + plates) and the rest for the rack + mats. The brand doesn't matter too much for me and I'm just getting back into the game so I won't be tossing around giant weights for a while, meaning I don't need top end stuff. Also, I'm not really interested in any bowflex type gyms or ones with built in bars. Free motion weights + rack are very much preferred.
So far, I've checked out the following places:
Fitness Source (one small location only, found most of their stuff overpriced)
www.Crossfitto.com (do they have a wider selection instore?)
www.Treadmillfactory.ca (they have a few things I'm considering from powertech)
www.Fitnessdepot.ca
I'm also happy with used stuff and have looked at a few Kijiji/Craigslist posting but haven't really found too much.
Any suggestions to specific equipment or stores would be awesome. Thanks.Last edited by nuberific; Jun 29th, 2009 at 03:10 AM.
