Home Reno Thread

I have a ongoing Home Reno Thread on another site, but i was inspired by to put it here while i was reading My Basement Reno Project Thread

(Disclaimer, im in no way an expert. But i will accept your constructive Critisim)
*Also note this house is located in BC, about 45 minutes from Vancouver:
(These renos started in October)

So after looking a million places, over the past couple years.
Most not meeting the list of requirements, or else they were way to costly..
This place came, and its a great place.

My only complaint is the lack of land (I wanted some Acreage however my lady didnt want to drive more then 40 minutes to get to work) so i got a sweet shop as well.

3 Bed 2 Bath
Attached garage (for my ladys car)
700 Square foot attached shop, with 10' door. and 220V plugs for my cars
couple nice storage rooms inside
Large Porch
Large flat back yard.
10,000Square Foot lot

(Pics are from the listing)

Hopefully it wont be this messy when i get moved in the shop

THe house is from the 70's and has had no real updating done to it.. This is the list of things we are going to do before we move in:
Paint every room
New flooring in all rooms
Gut the upstairs bathroom and put a totally new one in
Build a 3rd bathroom upstairs in the master (From scratch) My lady needs a on-suite
redo some of the electrical in the shop/storage room
move the washer and drier (Lady doesn't like the current location)
Install a Patch panel, and run Cat 6 lines to every room in the house/shop and install wall plugs
Install a garage Door opener
(Added: )New Kitchen (Totally new Yikes)

After we move in:
Redo the down stairs bathroom
Complete the finishing on the hallway to the shop/storage room
Get a 2 post hoist in the shop (YaY)

So Project one is the finish the shop so that we can use it as a work shop for the rest of the Renos.
The Shop it just insulated with Vapour Barrier, but doesn't have any Drywall/wall covering.. so we are doing a Combination of Plywood, and pressboard.

Incase anyone is wondering.. the staining on the sheets isnt water damage.

Worked on the ceiling for a couple hours tonight, my brother and his buddy were helping.
Before:

First Row on:

working on the Next Row:

Still have one more Row to do.. will finish tomorrow or the next day.. its not easy putting 4x8 sheets up on a 14 ceiling with just 2 people. good thing my brother was helping us.

So the Father-In-Law in insisting that we get new windows in the place as well.. Sigh... It has old crappy windows, however i dont really want to spend another $7k on new windows, on top of getting new kitchen and the rest of the work we are doing.. We will see how that goes..

anyways.. Carpet pulled from the 2 upstairs bedrooms.

So the Shop is ready for paint.. and i decided i wanted to try a paint gun..
the Wagner Flexio 590

(Looks like a sweet Halo gun)

This is what i started with:

On to the painting:

Turned out ok, however man your arm gets sore since you have almost half a car of paint in the gun

My Recomendations are (Better respirator) (Eye protection) and gloves. cause you get paint particles everywhere. i was crying paint for awhile after i did this.. that cant be healthy.

LoL Yes Kitchens cost way more then i had thought, well to be honest i never thought about it before at all.. lol.

So i decided to work on running Cat 6 Cable, cause i like having a hardwired network in my house.
Living Room, 2 Upstairs bedrooms, Recroom, and basement bedroom.

Just have to put the ends on, do the final run to the (Server room) Patch into the patch panel, Test the cables are we are golden.

Going to start Demoing in the Mastor bedroom to start with the new Bathroom build.
This is how it looks right now:

Ya heating floors arent happening.. lol.

Got some supplies today from Home Depot:
RVR can hold alot of stuff (Note the Brand new Toilet)

We are going to be changing all the plumbing in the kitchen from Copper to PEX lines.
So we needed to see where the run went, Time to cut some access panels.

So we decided we might as well redo 90% of the plumbling from copper to PEX..

Kitchen.

New water line to the new fridge location:

This is the main line into the house from the City. we cut it off, to replace with 3/4 Pex, from 1/2" Copper, that should give a bit better flow in the house.

We changed the configuration a bit, and added some valves the 2 valved you see in this picture are for the kitchen, this way in case of an emergency you can shut the kitchen down, hot and cold from the basement.

I didnt take a pic of it, but we ran the 3/4" cold line all the way to the hot water tank, and then a 3/4" hot line out all the way to the kieth value, with 3/4" T junctions to the bathrooms. We also prepped the lines for the new bathroom.

Todays task was to make a new Exhaust vent run for the stove.. since in the new kitchen layout the stove in on the other side of the space.
Luckly for us we had the ceiling all pulled apart from the electrical. So we did a long run that looks great. and while we were at it we put all the insulation, while added another 2 layers filling the space so there would be minimal heat loss.
