I saw this yesterday also, but I'm a bigger fan of Klipsch then I am of Inifity. But I believe this is what Hyper posted.

Was doing some research. Denon is all over the map with the XX12 models. 1712 has MultiEQ but 1912 does not... 1612 has USB plug, 1712 does not. Never figured higher tier models would drop features.
I think I've gotten over the idea of networking. Both systems have PS3s so I'm covered there. Only thing left throwing me off about the 1712 is that it doesn't upconvert... For the most part, I never need it, but I want it for the Wii that I never use. LOL.
But I do really like the MultiEQ..._______________

Remember that its not Multeq, its Multeq XT. There's a slight different as one uses a high resolution filter.
Again it might not be your cup of tea, but to some people it's a big deal.
Yes Denon's release of the xx12 units are pretty much all over the place. You have to compare spec's to really get the idea of what features you want.
Upconvert isn't that big of a deal to me neither. I turn off my Onkyo's upconversion and set it to pass through.

R1Lee and Others.
What do you think about spending around 200 on a used Onkyo HT-R540 receiver? Or should I pay more for a new Denon 1712 ($399)?
My fronts are RC-70's.

The HT-r540, when looking this up is part of the HTIB system, the HT-s790. This receiver is now 6 years old, doesn't offer any room correction, hd decoding, but from the brief specs shows 1000w of amplification. Personally I think it's a little overpriced and if I were to go for a receiver this old, I mind as well step up to a much better unit like a Rotel rsp-1066 or 1068. They go for low 200's and offer a wonderful clear audiophile quality sound, I know I recently sold my rsp-1066. It might not have some of the connectivity, but neither does the onkyo compared to the denon.
The avr1712 if you hold out and wait for deals can be had for $299, this was the price for boxing day and I wouldn't be surprised that it hits this number again. If you don't want to wait, I think you can find this for $349 at a lot of places.
Neither of these receivers are going to give you all the toys like AirPlay, pandora, network capabilities etc. The thing the denon has going for it over the onkyo is hd decoding, 3d, Dolby prologic IIz, hdmi 1.4a, OSD over hdmi and audyssey, as you've seen me mention. In some cases audyssey is worth the price of that receiver all by itself, and you could be blown away by what it has to offer. (I honestly didn't realize how good this receiver looks like in terms of specs)
RC70 seem to be very efficient at 95db. So power wouldn't be a big deal to reach reference.Last edited by r1lee; Feb 9th, 2012 at 09:42 PM.

I'd always get a new receiver with modern processing features over an older one. These days, a $400 receiver has the same features as a $800 one from a few years back.
MultEQ is a good system and well worth it if your room isn't acoustically perfect (the majority of people will find it makes a difference for the better).

Was wondering if someone could help me out...I have a Yamamha YHT-196 HTIB. I watch movies via a harddrive connected to the TV and would like to get the sound to come out through the receiver. Do I need an optical audio cable to get TV sound to the receiver? Would anyone know how I could do this with this receiver or if this receiver even do this?
Currently the PVR and PS3 is connected to the receiver via HDMI and receiver is connect to the TV via HDMI as well.
Please help a newbie out.
Thanks.

r1lee, your setup is awesome. I live in a condo, and the only reason I'd ever buy a house would be to build/get an HT like that.
My oldish setup (sorry no pics) isn't perfect soundwise because of the all open spaces/cathedral ceiling but it's more than enough to annoy the neighbors.

R1LEE, anymore pics of your set up? I'm finally
gonna do a proper cabinet this week and though you made one.
If you like Klipsch you should look into bic. About half the price and general consensus is not as bright.

1. Does your TV and Receiver both support ARC? (Audio Return Channel) if it does, then there's your answer.
2. If it does not, then yes run a Optical or an Analog L/R into your receiver.
pictures? When we bought this house (my wife's choice over another one I preferred) the deal was that when it came to the HT room, there would be no compromise from my standpoint in how much I spent. She's been awesome and hasn't said a peep. I'm still fine tuning and it's getting a little out of hand on how much I'm spending, so I'm starting to feel bad.Last edited by r1lee; Feb 10th, 2012 at 07:17 AM.

If you like the look of the Salamander Synergy line, I can help you out with some instructions on building a knock off for cheaper than the real thing. I loved the look of the Synergy cabinets, and the perforated steel is great for keeping equipment cool, but I couldn't stomach the price.
