Honda Plus -extended warranty-
I just bought 08 accord EXL V6 with navi. I have till wed. to decide on extended warranty. The car still has the basic 3 years 60k. till Oct.6 2011 and powertrain till Oct.2014 due to been a CPO honda certified. Car has all the toys and I was wondering what do you think about the extra warranty, specificly on all the electronics and stuff. I was offered to get 7years 130k which would cover (bumper to bumper) till October 2015 for $1500. I know when you'll need to use it honda could give you hard time and run around (that is what I heard) but the matter of fact is , Is it realy worth it??? First year of production is something that is leaning me towards the purchase of that extended warranty. Any thought would be realy appreciated.
Thank you.

i would say not needed... personally for a honda, id just pay out of pocket for future issues... lots of independent mechanics should know how to work your problem as they arise.

So 4 yrs and 70K for $375 a yr? If it includes Roadside assistance it even works out to less per year...
If it is Honda Extended Warranty I would say take it.

Why do you say "I have till wed. to decide on extended warranty". I have a 2006 TSX that finished comprehensive warranty in late April 2010. I could buy the same Acura/Honda extended warranty as you mentioned right up until the day the comp. coverage ended. I am hoping you are not getting any pressure sales. If so, forget about it. Phone another Honda dealership and ask how long you have before you can not buy an extended warranty.
Just my 2 cents.

Extended warranty questions frequently pop up and it all comes down to your own acceptance of risk.
My view, and should i get the accord, is to buy it if you're planning to keep the car for the 7+ years. honda warranties have to be the cheapest around (compared to the competition) and as jeff pointed out, it's not really that much per year.
hondas have great reliability records, but its still a machine. you could be the unlucky one and have a lemon.

Sorry, I didn't clarify, I'm picking up my car on wed. but I have till Oct.6 2011 to extend original bumper to bumper. That is when original 3/60k expires.

Its because when you take it with the purchase of the vehicle, it sometimes shave off some dough of it. I got mine for 25% less than the regular price.
OP, Try to deal on the warranty if you can. Even thou, you aren't sure what future might hold for your car. So it comes down to you. How much of a risk taker are you?

the original price for the warranty is $1650, they took off $150 which is not a deal in my book but I will try to negotiate some more IF I decide to take it. Its only under $400 a year for peace of mind, its not bad but the questions is if its worth it?

only you can answer that question - for me it still isnt worth it as id rather take the risk, to others it certainly then again, im in the securities business so we take bigger risks than that you're having - sometimes you have to go unhedged to win big (or lose big for that matter). my view could be diff than yours, if you think you're one of the "unlucky" men in the world who will get defects, then go for it...

We have a '04 Civic Si, a '06 Odyssey EXL-RES and a '10 Accord EXL Navi V6 and bought them all brand new. We never bought any extended warranty on any of them. All 3 vehicles have been very reliable and have never been in for any warranty repairs yet. Our previous Honda car was a '92 Civic EX which we had for 12 years and the only thing we changed in it was a single light bulb in the dash. Roadside assistance came with all the cars anyways. IMO I wouldn't buy it but it's all up to you.

Is the Honda extended warrantee that good? Bumper to Bumper?
Toyota's extended warrantee is not that great, lots of exclusions. Air bag display control (part of clock) and engine belt tensioner were not included. That was a $900 repair bill.

My 02 Accord had a 7 year warranty... expired in May 09... came in handy as V6's back then were prone to problems. Paid for itself and gave me peace of mind. And when it was about to expire, I asked them to check all aspects of the warranty incase I needed any warranty work and they waived the charge for that too. I got lucky. I forget what the service was called at honda, but it was around $45.
