[Amazon.com] Hookbag.ca: SanDisk Extreme SSD 240GB - $225.19

This drive is now on sale at Hookbag.ca with free shipping:

http://www.hookbag.ca/product/H3C06MVHG/

This drive has Toggle NAND, which is much better than synchronous NAND and it has the SandForce SF-2281 controller, albeit with SanDisk's own firmware. This is a new drive and reviews have been rave.

For this price, falling under 1$/GB, this is a steal. And yes, I'm aware that there was a larger sale by Amazon yesterday, but it's over already. Too bad I didn't have an amerifriend >.<

NCIX also has the Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240gb for $199 (after $10 MIR) for this weekend. Same controller and toggle nand.

$213.99 after PM at ME:

I think it's on sale in the US for $199 at Amazon.

Not sure about Mushkin, but Sandisk seems like a more well known brand.

I've read somewhere that the Mushkin has bad power consumption levels, especially when idle. Also, the SanDisk uses 24nm die. I'm not sure which die size is the Mushkin (32nm was what I read around).

Would this be overkill on a SATA 2 controller? Or is it still good value for the money?

In a way, yes. You just won't get full use out of the 6Gbps SATA 3. Nevertheless, right now deals that fall below 1$/GB are good value.

The fact that it's a Sandisk makes this deal so blistering hot but it's still unaffordable :(
