why? is it cuz it's not worth the extra $100 or is the viewsonice a better unit overall

From what the review said, it appeared to me to be quite positive. I believe the PIP lack of options was also a similar, perhaps not exact, complaint of the Viewsonic.

If you don't like gold, go to a hobby store and buy a small $2 jar of paint.

As for the speakers, my personal opinion is if I want good sound I won't turn to the built in units. Therefore, having them below and not at the side is a plus.

I haven't seen the Gateway, but I did have the Viewsonic for a couple of months.

The biggest concern I would have between the Viewsonic and the Gateway unit is what happens if something goes wrong. Costco has got my back... I've heard that FD can be troublesome to deal with.

Nice price for the SD card. Those things are really dropping in price! As for the TV, I think Tiger sells a 42" plasma for around $1400, which may be worth it for the added size.

I think that did happen at one time, with a refurbished Akai or something like that, but the current lowest price is around $1750. This 30" LCD might have an advantage of the lowest price plasmas - if you want to use it as a monitor it can support 1280x768, which is a significantly higher resolution than the cheapest plasmas.

what about the viewing angle critique in the review? is that something common with LCDs? is the viewsonic better in that regard?
