Because it's easier.
Either way, as long as there is meat and they are tasty, I'll eat the leg and wing things regardless of nomenclature.

Hot Chicken Wings (or legs???)
Why are they called "hot wings" or "chicken wings" when they are actually a mixture of both wings and legs, with the legs actually being the better? Anyone know? Why not "chicken pieces"?
For reference:
WING:
LEG:
And before anyone asks, yes I know this si a stupid question, but this is OT and I am bored!

Are you sure you're talking about the real leg (femur) and not just the drumstick portion (humerus) of the wing (radius + ulna)? The 'leg' seems a bit too small in that picture to really be a leg.
But I <3 all chicken pieces limbs.

To be fair, I wondered the same thing as OP when I was younger
I remember thinking the actual chicken's leg were just larger wing drumsticks, that must have come from hugeeee chickens, and always wanted their wing equivalent but could never find it.
