Thank you for answering my question...
I guess I'm just more worried about going through the activation and experiencing the hassle above of being on hold with a CSR when the promised credit doesn't go through and get a load of additional fees as indicated above. Otherwise you're right...the monthly fees are a good savings...
It's probably been asked before but what the heck does Rogers gain at all for doing this? And why can't they just drop the rental fee's without all the extra packaging and activation?![]()

huh????
what's more of a hassle :
1) Spending your valuable time getting into the car and using gas to go back to Futureshop to return the modem and continuing PAYING modem rental fees
or
2) Keep your modem purchase and SAVING time, gas, and money by no longer paying the monthly rental fee?_______________

Yeah, not that much of a hassle...I mean it's roughly $36/year savings, but that's still savings and if you're a true RFD'r it's not about the amount of savings, but just plain saving.
There will sometimes be hiccups with billing with any company I've found when trying to get any deal, but a simple phone call or two usually sets everything straight.
I just wish Rogers will allow you to see your bill online AND send you a paper bill, eg, with Telus you can see when they've credited, charged, etc pretty quick online instead of waiting for the bill...does anyone know if Rogers allows this on their website?_______________
My Plans
Line 1 Rogers - Iphone 4/350 Anytime minutes/Unlimited E&W after 6pm/Unlimited Incoming Calls/Unlimited Rogers to Rogers/CID/VM/2500 texts//100 Long Distance Minutes/6 GB data/WhoCalled/CallManager = $37.43 plus HST = $42.30
Line 2 Telus - Super Talk 10 - 250 Anytime minutes/CID/CW/Mini VM/Free Incoming Calls/Unlimited E&W after 6pm/250 texts = $17.70 + HST = $20

He's greedy for charging an reasonable $7 (for two trips of gas and his time)? The free router deal is over now, so if you were to get both at Future Shop - you're looking at 170+. He's just doing RFD a favour, and you're calling him greedy?
I'm not even going to start with the "bad BF" comment.

I decided to take the plunge and to migrate from my already-owned SB5100 to the promotional SA modem (just to get the deal on the wireless router). Was a bit worried about the whole activation process and the horror stories posted here about interrupted or lack of connectivity for days at a time after activation but very happy to say that I got very lucky. The CSR had the new modem up and running in under 5 minutes. Process couldn't have been less painless and for once, I must congratulate Rogers on a job well done. I was quite shocked as this is the first time I have actually been impressed by Rogers support/efficiency. If this modem ends up causing me any problems, no one said that I couldn't go back to using my old trusty 5100.

Confirm that Warden/7 location is sold out, I was told I got the last one today. Thanks OP for this great deal. And props to the great reps in the computer section at that location. Very friendly and took the time to explain what I have to tell the Rogers rep. to activate.

When i called to activate the modem today, i was told the free service upgrade for 3 months has expired last week and it's only for new customers only.
Did anyone call this week and manage to get the upgrade?

Depending on who you talk to, the free Extreme for 3 month promo was always for new customers only. Some existing customers took advantage of the confusion at Rogers and got the promo anyways. Some, like me, were refused the promo but were offered 6 months of Extreme for the price of Express. Not as hot, but better than what some got.
As far as the free router promo... I got mine after the promo had supposedly ended. Showed a printout of this thread to the young salesman at FS and he rang it thru while his co-worker went to ask the manager about it. Lucky... no doubt... but surely not the only one that managed to walk out with a free router after the promo expired. Nothing to lose in asking.

I picked up another modem+router bundle before the promotion expired. If anyone in Markham wants to pick it up for cost price ($113), PM and we'll see what we can do.
EDIT: Someone picked it up, so no more PMs pleaseLast edited by joe_j; Oct 2nd, 2008 at 08:57 PM.

Anyone know what that was for?_______________
