HOT! Garmin c530 is back on sale at TSCC $329 (Until Sept 23, 2007)
They had it on sale last week but it expired on August 23. Now its back!
I had purchased the c330 model 2 weeks ago for $299 from FS but quickly returned it when I found out about this deal. The c530 is the updated model and is much faster at acquiring satellites. I am extremely happy with it.
What makes this deal so hot is that the c530 and c550 almost the exact same hardware, but the c550 model costs $599 and the main differences is that it has bluetooth, mp3 and text-to-speech (reads street names).
I did a quick google search for adding text-to-speech functionality to my c530 and found that someone had made a nice guide for doing this. (not sure if i am allowed to post the link, but you can easily google for it) I followed the guide, and now I have text-to-speech functionality on my c530. I dont care about mp3 or bluetooth... so i almost have the equivalent of a c550, but I only paid 1/2 the price!

I want to jump on this but i'm a bit weary about doing the mod myself.
Also, kinda want bluetooth so I can integrate it with my phone, don't know how practical that is though

After having a C550 for two months, I would never go back to a GPS without TTS and Bluetooth. The TTS is invaluable at busy intersections and safer as you don't have to look at the screen to see what street you should turn on. The Bluetooth provides not only the ability to use you cell phone hands free, but will dial the phone numbers that are included with most POIs - very handy!

I dont think its worth it to pay 300 bucks more just for bluetooth and mp3, its a total rip off imo. I have a cell phone with bluetooth but I can live without it if im saving so much.

I don`t care about the MP3 .But the hands free is a good safety feature for people that drive for a living.

I've been looking into a GPS but I don't really understand about all these hacks and stuff. I know people can hack this unit so it can do text to speech but what about the ability to put in new maps and updates? Or does that come free?

Dell has Nuvi 350 for $399
Nuvi 350 is a much nicer unit IMO.
for $70 more you get a much nicer looking unit ... with Text-to-Speech and Travel-Kit ... much more portable too.

You have to downgrade your firmware to 5.30 for it to work. The guide should have a link to the file you need.
