GARMIN GEKO 201 GPS
Clearance: $79.99
Original price was $229.99.
The easy-to-use Geko 201 GPS is slim enough to slip into your pocket or carry at your side while enjoying the great outdoors. Take it along when you go hiking, biking or camping so you can mark locations. The Geko accepts external power and connects to your PC for transferring routes and waypoints (separate purchase required). When it's time to play, check out the Geko 201's built-in GPS games, which are played outdoors with you as the main game feature!

Online Availability: These products are not available online.
Store Availability: These are in-store specials available in limited quantity with no Rain Checks. Not all products available at all stores.
Find it in-store.
Stores still have them, but very few units left in stock, so if you want to get one, act fast!!!
My comment - light duty GPS, but the best standalone GPS value I have seen so far, and can be connected to your laptop to work with Mapping software.

Note that there's no map capability for this one, the only thing nice about it is that it's waterproof

I just bought myself the garmin legend a couple days ago. This is a pretty good price, however, I don't think I could go from having 8mb for maps to 0mb.
All in all, anyone who just wants something for simple place-marking (for camping etc), this is a solid deal.

I have the Garmin eTrex, which is pretty much the same as this (with a couple of extra features, but no maps) and I have it mounted on my bike when I go cycling. It's great for telling you your speed, odometer, how far from home you are and best of all, it creates a path to tell you where you've been so you don't have to pay attention to where you are going, just follow the (virtual) breadcrumb path home!

Bought last one (display model) at Wilson and Jane store (North York).
OP: thanks!
I just bought a serial cable for it from NavSphere through Amazon. I'd post a link, but the link I've got might have account information encoded in it. US$7.95 + US$6.95 S&H. Other ways I got there seem to yield higher prices. Oh wait: I'll use their "tell a friend" mechanism to launder the URL: http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B00073M..._taf_text_link

I tried one in the store. After 5 minutes of power up, it is still searching or something for SAT; the signal meter is zero
. There is also a screw on the back of the unit, not sure why
. I did not buy it
.
For people who brought it, how long does it take from power up to operation readiness?

Apr 1st, 2006 04:45 PM #15The screw is only used if you purchase optional mount etc. It does not hold the GPS together. I played with my geko for a bit, it performs poorly indoors unless you are next to a window and pointing the right way. On the street, it can connect in less than 1 minute, occasionally loses signal when near buildings(?) but regains it quickly. All in all, I think this can be used while urban traveling etc when I get lost, rather than just "outdoor wilderness" (I never go there :P)
