It could be spread by connecting to the internet and/or to other computers on the network. Try to close all connections and install OS and antivirus.
Here's a good program for removal of spyware/virus:

Are you behind a firewall? If not, I suggest you get a router with a firewall. If you already have a router with a firewall, then shut down ALL your other computers in the house (assuming this is all happening to you at home). I suspect that your other systems are infected.

download the lastest avast antivirus and set it to do a complete check up before boot.
it should catch some of those then if that works and you still want to reinstall windows. run a virus check on the img file you are trying to load.
in what directories are the viruses. in most cases i think its a network spread virus from another computer on it.
try avast its free to try for 1 month i think from www.100-downloads.com

you connected to the bare-naked net without either hardware or software firewall?!?!?!?! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU???
speaking from experience, fresh installed xp pro os for a friend, the ethernet cable is plugged in during the install, few seconds after first boot into windows, got the msblaster worm, obviously the pc was connected without any firewall and the OS holes weren't patched_______________

in some cases the recovery disc will not format the drive unless you select destructive recovery (wipes out everything)
Select one of the following procedures, depending on which recovery type you want to perform:
*
To perform a system recovery, click Next, and then click Yes
*
To perform a destructive recovery, click Advanced, (select Destructive Recovery) and then click Next._______________

Sep 19th, 2006 09:55 AM #11Agree. According to an article on the web, an unprotected Windows system without hardware/software firewall of any kinds will only survive ~ 10-15 minutes before start infecting by virus/spyware.

what you can do is download SP2 and burn to disc/ save to flash drive ect ect with infected system.
then reinstall system recovery disc. add antivirus and then install SP2 from disc or flash drive then set firewall then connect to internet._______________
