How do you burn a DVD faster than its rated speed??
I always read here about people saying they can burn 2.4X rated discs at 4X and 4X at 8X speeds and 8X at 16X and so on.
How??
I have a Benq 4x +r burner (dw400a or something). I usually use Nero to burn discs (mostly data and Divx data discs for my Phillips 642 dvd player).
Now since my antique burner only burns at 4x I would imagine I could not go past that no matter what, but I have an old spindle of Phillips 2.4X +r discs that burn incredibly slow, could I make them burn at 4X?? I also bought 50 +RW discs when I bought the burner and they are 2.4X as well. Could I burn faster??
Just wondering because I see it posted around here constantly but never figured to ask how its done. Seems to me that Nero won't let me burn any faster than the disc is rated, if I insert a 2.4x is says thats as high as it will go.

For me it was just the firmware. Simply after upgrading to the lastest BenQ(1620) firmware, whenever I put a BenQ 8x DVD+R in, it'll ask me if I want to burn it at 16x. I never do though so I just drop it back down to 8x.

over clocking is only available naturally through the firmware, Or through hacked firmwares. For your drive, I don't believe there are any hacked firmwares that allow this. And only the Pioneer has been able to overclock RW media at all... and this is only for DVD-RWs. So far as I'm aware at least, and I could be wrong on this.
_______________
Current DVD Burner Suggestion? Stick with Pioneer
Current suggested recordable media?

I'm sorry to revive an old thread, but I just bought the DW1620PRO at FS (the pricing error suposedly) and what I seem to understand it that:
the speed depends on the media? So once I put a blank in and open Nero, the speed will adjust itself to match the media speed?
I put a Memorex 4X advertised media and it burnt it at 8X.
So if I put a BENQ Dvd+R that's advertised 8X it should burn 16X??

Depends on media and where applicable, drive's firmware.
