how do you change a cpu cooler on an amd xp2500
i'm trying to remove my stock cpu cooler on my amd xp2500, i have an idea but i'm not 100% sure on how to do it. i do'nt want to damage my processor or mobo. can somebody help me out on how to change it. a site with pics would help a lot

should be clamped down with some kind of metal clips.. undo those, then just pulled the heatsink off the chip.
Then you can undo the little latch and pull the processor out (if you want).

i watched the thermal pad vs thermal paste, and is it true that thermal paste dissipates over time? i used arctic silver 5 on my pc and will i need to reapply soon? its been several months now.

Just be careful with the screwdriver.
A lot of mobos were RMA'ed due to CPU changes!

News to me.. I would expect it to hold up over your lifetime owning the processor.. I guess if you were concerned you could clean it and slap new paste on every couple years.
It takes a while for the paste to even set completely, so I doubt it breaks down over a few months.
