Here's a few examples;
(1) Try using that cellphone to call your own cellphone that way u will get the number of the phone. Then reverse trace it to see what provider its with. The operator can go from there.
(2) Once you get the number, if it has voicemail leave a message with ur contact info and if the person is smart enough to check their cell, they will call you.
(3) Wait until the person calls the cellphone?
Hope that helps.
P.S. for the (1), if the caller has block ID, u can still try step (3).

How to find owner of lost cellphone?
I found a cellphone in the snow yesterday and want to return it to its owner. It seems to still be working, has a full charge, but the main display is messed up so you cant see what numbers have called in or out of it (which would have been ideal to try and locate the owner).
Its a virgin mobility Samsung.
Is there a code I can enter (like *67 type of thing) to call the cellphone itself and leave a mesg for the owner?
Any ideas or is it a lost cause?_______________
One more year of tellin' it like it is.

Call 611, you will get the provider's customer service, no matter who the provider is.
Good Luck_______________

*611 from the cell phone....
....or just drop by a store (Rogers, Telus, Fido, Bell) and they will track down the owner. The company will not provide you with information about their customer but they will contact them on your behalf (most likely to tell them to pick up the phone from a store).

I found a cell phone a couple of years ago and tried to contact the owner by doing all the things mentioned here. No one wanted to help and I got no success from doing the reverse search / 611 thing.
It does have a sim card in it. Can that sim card be "re-used" by me now?_______________

You can try hitting the talk button twice (not sure if this is true for all phones), it should call the last person they talked to and ask them to notify the other person.

try contacting the service provider, they should have the imei on record, and the owner's info should be associated with that
