Here is my current situation
I have Rogers VIP Digital Bundle (with 4 extra outlets)
I have Rogers Extreme Service (and I regulary do 300+ GB per month)
I own 2 Digital Cable boxes and a Cable Modem
I "rent" 1 Digital box which is free (for now, I think for a year)
I had previously (around Jan I think) negotiated a whole bunch of discounts 15% off bundle... well let me just show you folks what my bill looks like:
Rogers Yahoo! Hi-Speed Extreme 46.95
Less: Internet: 12 month $10 rebate -10.00
Better Choice Bundles 15% Disc. -5.44
--------------------------------------------
Net Cable Internet Charge 31.41
GST 2.20
==================================
Total Cable Internet services 33.61
Digital VIP Cable 55.97
VIP Digital Terminal 3.99
Digital Services Fee 2.99
VIP Discount -6.98
Less: Discount -6.99
Better Choice Bundles 15% Disc. -7.80
--------------------------------------------
Net television Charge 41.18
GST 2.88
PST 3.29
==================================
Total Cable televsion services 47.35
==================================
GRAND TOTAL on Bill (incl PST/GST) $80.96
You saved 37.31 on your rogers services
I spoke with a Customer Relations rep today and he looked at my account and said that to get approx the same services with Bell that I have with Rogers would be over $100. Unfortunately I think he is right. He called my bluff.... and well... not HD PVR for me![]()
From my bill re VIP:
Your are subscribing to the Digital VIP Cable Package which includes:
Basic Cable
Ultimate TV Pak
Extra Outles
Rental of your first Digital Terminal
Digital Services Fee
VIP Partner Benefits
Should I try again... come on folks give me some Ammo!![]()

Oh, just to add to my last post...
I currently have basic cable+ultimate tv pak.
I did not have to upgrade or pay any additional fees.
The rep said that the 2yr promotion is also good for the regular PVR.
Thanks nepean 19 !!

Guys... this deal has been around in one form or another since 2004. The original "Real Choice" deal was for a free rental of a PVR or HDPVR for as long as you remain a Rogers customer. Then it turned into the current "Ditch the Dish" deal for a 2 year free rental. For both deals you had to trade in a satellite receiver, but the tech who comes to do the install rarely remembers to pick it up.
Now it sounds like now Rogers is waiving the requirement of having the satellite receiver altogether.
Here's an old thread about the deal:

And the current "Ditch the Dish" deal:

It's definitely a good deal to get a HDPVR... I've had it for almost 2 years now and I can't live without it!

I sort of got the deal but only for 1 year. Which is better than nothing I guess. I had to speak to 2 people. First guy didn't budge, second guy offered me 1 year.
The first guy I spoke to wouldn't give me the offer. While talking we were both on computers and he showed me that Bell is offering a credit but requires $68 of programming for only 1 year. He explained that since my account has extra savings from VIP and bundles it would still be cheaper to stay with rogers and therefore he offered no deal.
Second guy I called told me that he had 2 other callers today ask him about the same deal. (RFD effect I assume). He said that he couldn't make the offer to those other people because he was concerned that bell had some restrictions sich as a required minimum programming for a high amount or binding contracts, etc. But I replied by telling him that even if I stayed with rogers and paid for high amount of rogers programming I would still be $25 disadvantage because I would have to pay the rogers fee. We sort of went back and forth saying the same thing over and over. But eventually he just said "what can I do to keep you as a rogers customer?" I said just give me free HDPVR for 2 years and I would be an extrememly happy customer. He came back and said that he would give me the deal for only 1 year because the bell website deals are only for 1 year. I decided to agree with it.

Does anyone know the rental price of an HD PVR from Rogers?
Bell is offering $20 per month in savings, would that be equal to the HD PVR rental prices from Rogers? Since my "bluff" has been called unlike Nepean or Renton, I am stuck using the facts to argue with Rogers..

I called again, they offered me 1 month free rental credit of $25 because I said that I just wanted to try it out and see if I liked it or not without wasting any of my money. I turned it down saying I will call bell and then decide.

Good luck to everyone else.

Thank you for the info, just out of curiosity is the additional -$6.99 discount something that you negotiated...what are the chance of getting that in addition to the VIP discount. I'm currently on their ultimate tv pak analog cable service and paying about $57 including taxes per month...is there any chance of getting digital cable for the same price?
