Ahh, the open road. Nothing quite like cruising past picturesque scenery in your sporty convertible while the wind ruffles your hair, right?
That's why we recommend renting a car when you get to your destination and leaving the trip to Pearson to fearless cabbies and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Unless, of course, you like that sinking desperation that comes with realizing your flight is leaving in 10 minutes, and you're not even out of the suburbs yet.
But if you need to drive, here are the best ways to get there.
Highways 409 and 427 provide direct freeway access to the Toronto Pearson International Airport. Other highway routes leading to the airport include Highways 400, 401, 403, 407, 410 and the QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way). Look for the green sign with the airplane on it!
To determine which terminal your airline is departing from or arriving to, look for the large fingerboards on the side of Highway 409 west, 427 south and 427 north as you enter the Pearson Airport property. All airlines are listed in alphabetical order with their terminal indicated next to it.
If you're picking up or dropping someone off at the airport, be aware that there is no longer any curbside parking in front of the three terminals. You may, however, stop momentarily if need be.
Also, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s site provides regular updates on road conditions for winter drivers.

Taking the TTC (which stands for "Toronto Transit Commission," but is local slang for any of Toronto's buses, streetcars, or subway trains) is probably the most inexpensive way to get to or from the airport.
Admittedly, it's a bit of a pain if you pack heavily, and you might need to allow a bit of extra time to transfer between routes. But if both your luggage and your wallet are a little on the light side, take a ride on any of the four routes the TTC has to offer:
Daytime
During the day, the 192 Rocket and the 58A Malton are the two main buses that travel to Pearson. The 192 Rocket runs from 5:30 a.m. to 2 a.m., seven days a week and it leaves from the Kipling station on the Bloor-Yonge subway line. Average travel time is 20 minutes. The 58A Malton runs from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m., also seven days a week, leaving from the Lawrence West station on the Spadina subway line. The trip to the airport will take about 45 minutes.
Overnight
Buses also run overnight to Pearson. Catch the 300 Bloor-Danforth along Bloor Street and Danforth Avenue seven days a week, between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Or, you can grab the 307 Eglinton West, also seven days a week, between 1:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Both routes take about 45 minutes to reach Pearson.
A one-way adult fare on the TTC is $2.75, which includes transfers between streetcars, subways, and buses. Subway transfers in Toronto are not valid at the station at which they're dispensed, so pick one up when you start your trip.
You can also purchase tickets or tokens at a discounted rate, as well as day or week passes, at subway stations and many convenience stores. For more information, check out the TTC’s official website.
By GO Transit
GO Transit links Toronto with many of the surrounding cities that make up the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). The GO route serving Pearson is the Brampton Local, Hwy 27 and Hwy 47 Express. The buses run frequently Monday to Friday, with the first bus leaving the Brampton Bus Terminal at 5:15 a.m. and the last at 11:30 p.m.
By Mississauga Transit
If you're coming in from Mississauga, catch the 7 Airport bus. It leaves from the main bus terminal at Square One Shopping Centre on the half-hour, with extra buses running during the morning and afternoon rush. The first bus leaves at 5:51 a.m. and the last at 12:07 a.m.
One-way adult fare on the Mississauga Transit costs $2.50.

By Taxi or Limousine
Many taxi and limousine companies offer a flat rate to Pearson Airport. Rates will depend on where in the city you're coming from.
GTAA Certification
The Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) recommends that passengers leaving the airport by taxi or limousine ensure that their driver is certified by the GTAA. Certified GTAA drivers will have identification displayed prominently on the outside of their taxis and limousines.
GTAA vehicles offer flat rates to a number of regions in the Toronto area. You can hail a GTAA taxi or limousine outside the main doors, on the ground level, of Terminals 1 or 3.

Greyhound Canada and Via Canada
If Toronto's just the first stop on your cross-Canada adventure, you might wish to explore the travel possibilities offered by Greyhound Canada and Via Rail Canada.
Greyhound Canada is the largest bus transportation company in Canada, serving almost 1,100 centres, big and small. Their Toronto terminal is located at 610 Bay Street.
Since 1978, Via Rail Canada has provided train service to 450 Canadian communities from B.C. to Newfoundland. They offer fares for individual trips, or passes that let travelers take an unlimited number of trips within a certain time period. Via trains arrive and depart from Union Station, located at 100 Front Street West.
