So the son gets punished and publicly humiliated because the parents failed to raise him properly? O...kay. They should have the parents stand on the corner wearing a "I'm a bad parent" sign.

How to 'ground' your child...
There was a thread earlier on a topic like this...here is one option! (HEY FCS...STFU!)
LYING BOY PUNISHED
BROCKVILLE, Ont. -- Police in Brockville, Ont., say a 12-year-old boy spent yesterday morning standing on a sidewalk wearing a sign that said he was a liar.
Witnesses saw the boy standing outside the local train station wearing the placard around his neck at 10:30 yesterday morning.
Police say his parents made the boy wear the sign as punishment. No charges have been laid.
BROCKVILLE -- Family and Children's Services staff were called in after a 12-year-old boy was made to stand on a Brockville sidewalk with a sign around his neck calling him a liar, city police said yesterday.
Police responded at 10:31 a.m. after witnesses saw the boy at the corner of Perth and Delhi streets, across from the Via Rail station, Insp. Adrian Geraghty said.
The boy was wearing a placard that indicated he was a liar, said Geraghty.
SET UP MEETING
The officer at the scene spoke to the boy's mother and father about this apparent act of punishment, he said.
"We facilitated a meeting with the (Family and Children's Services)," added Geraghty. "It's in their hands."
The officer left the scene with the situation under control and the boy and mother on their way to the agency's office, he said.
No charges have been laid in the incident, said the inspector.
Rocci Pagnello, director of services at Family and Children's Services, said he can't comment on individual cases. Pagnello would not confirm or deny that the incident was being investigated by the agency, but he did say its mandate does include responding to calls about children in need of help.

I have no idea what to make of this punishement - some kids would never recover from the humiliation, some kids would think twice about lieing and some kids would end up hating their parents. Some kids would be sneaky and think of better ways to lie and not get caught.Last edited by Piccolo; Aug 26th, 2006 at 09:02 AM. Reason: errors

Gee, I hope this incident didn't scar the poor child for life.

Good job child care. Now the parents are probably just gonna beat the kid in the privacy of their own home.. and threaten him to not tell anyone.

Give the parents a break: All kids lie. All adults lie.
Instead of beating their kid, they found a way to show their son that if he lies, EVERYONE around him will see him as a lier. The only way to prevent people from looking at you as a lier, is to not lie.
It was a pretty clear message to the kid, and he learnt a lesson from it before he got into habitually lying. The punishment SHOULD relate to the thing the kid did to get in trouble.

Unfortunately, if anything, this is worse.
Simpletons will think, yea, the kid learns his lesson. The experts don't even think that far ahead. All they know is, 'the study says so'.
The kid will realize that in reality, everyone lies, and not only that, the ****** liars get caught, the good ones get really far in life.
It's unfortunate that this is just how our world is.

What the kid will learn is ... if you lie, you better lie much better. I don't think this kind of punishment will do the kid any good. They should find the root of the problem first. That is why he lies.
