How high should a CRT TV stand be for best angle(s)?

I'm currently using a 56 cm high microwave stand ($10.00 RFD Style) to watch my 27" CRT TV. I'm thinking of jumping up to a 66 cm high TV stand for once... what is the optimum height for CRT's? Is it the same for LCD's?

Wouldn't optimum for any TV be your eye level when viewing?

crts don't have viewing angle problems. pretty much as long as you can see TV, you get to see its original quality.

Why are LCD monitor's so high if TV's should be at eye level?

Best viewing angle is ... If you cannot make out what you are watching on tv, then you have to change your viewing angle until you can see.

Television screens are optimized for color and brightness to look best when viewing with the centre of the screen at eye level. If you typically watch television from your sofa, this means you should position the screen with the centre of the screen at eye level. In addition to best viewing conditions for the screen image, not craning your neck to look at the screen has important longterm health benefits. Now this doesn't mean you need to invest in surveyors equipment to configure your screen exactly at eye level, but using your best guess of eye level compared to the center of the screen will result in better viewing than placing the screen above eye level.

People put their LCD's up over their fireplaces etc for aesthetic purposes but this is definitely not a good idea. Unless of course, you are sitting on tall bar stools when you watch TV...
