I moved from QC to Toronto and will most likely stay permanently, is there a time limit that I have to change my plate to Ontario?

New Residents

If you are a new resident in Ontario and have a valid driver's licence from another province, state or country, you can use it for up to 60 days after you move to Ontario. If you want to keep driving in Ontario, you must get an Ontario driver's licence. You must use your Ontario licence when you are issued one. Most Quebec insurers don't allow you to operate your vehicle outside of Quebec for more than 30 days a year.

There is 2 ways to look at this.

Every insurance company can have their own policy regarding "out of province" coverage for extended periods of time. You really will have to call them.

Either way, you'll almost certainly need in-province insurance when you get your new plates.

I'm not a lazy butt that just ask questions without doing research on my end.

My insurer knows I live in ONT now and warn me I have to change to ONT insurance, but I told them Ministry of Ontario allow me to use my Quebec license in Ontario for 60 days, then I know I have 60 days to change my license and would it be the same for car insurance?

My insurer just want me to change right away, because I will be paying double for the Ontario insurance. They don't tell me how many days, but personally, I want to know how many days I'm allow to keep my current insurance. If I can keep it for a 1 month or 2, that save me 100-200$....

I will get my new plate and I will get my Ontario insurance. I just want to know what is the time limit as generally speaking. My insurer just want me to change it ASAP. If I have 60 days to switch my license, then I prefer to have 60 days to switch the insurance too. Otherwise, I will be having a Ontario plate and insurance, but with a QC driver license. The insurance won't let me insure my car anyway unless I have an active Ontario license.

If he is going to be on the phoen for 30+ minutes he needs to switch companies anyway.
