How many people have died this week?

Is it just me or are all my childhood icons dying off this week?

Not just childhood icons are dying, some up and comers died recently too. Godfrey Gao, Sulli, Goo Hara, and etc...

But you can add Michael Lai to the list of showbiz veterans who have passed away. He's known to be the guy who wrote the Police Story theme song.

Usually they come in 3's.

Well aware of all 3 of them, and now I have the song "The Look" stuck in my head, which Big Bird and Odo are dancing to, while on DS9...And Jerry Seinfeld is tying up his white sneakers, as this was common in the 1990's.
Why can't we all just get along?

Most of us grew up on tv/movies/music.. aka pop culture. We've had a lifetime of taking in a lot of it. It's not surprising when the ones from our childhoods are going as they're the oldest. I'm more surprised when someone young goes early :(

Still in a culture that loves music/movies/tv .. it'll never stop.... :(

I'll bet the farm that more noticed and paid respects to each loss cited here.
I'll also bet the farm that when you kick off, much fewer will notice, or care.
What does that make you?

Does it seem like we fetishize celebrity death? Seems like it's hard to go a day without a social media post or news article about some famous person who died and people treat it like a family member passed, except they seem to care about it more. It's really weird to me. Just an observation

I'd say these people contributed more in their time than some of the vapid self centred morons who permeate today's pop culture.

I think Roxette made a significant contribution to Pretty Woman being such a huge hit.

There is no universal way to explain the impact, as it differs from person to person.
With that said, it's often (subconsciously) more about the process of aging and facing one's own mortality.
In short - the significance changes the older you get.
When young, you encounter death of your peers far less frequently.
As you get older, and people you "knew" (or at least knew of, as is the case with celebs) die, you kinda reflect on that part of your life where the celeb was significant.

The 1990's version of myself really related to Constable Odo.
Hopefully, the actor is at peace within the great link....

Didn't he exterminate his own people with a genocidal virus?

Most significant was actually this song:

It was the first song to hit number 1 in North America, and not have a 7" vinyl release. It marked the beginning of the end of vinyl and the dominance of CDs, circa 1989.

Section 31 infected Odo with a virus (unbeknownst to Odo), so that he would infect all Founders through the great link. Thankfully, Dr. Bashir managed to develop a cure. Odo linked with the female founder, cured her, which convinced her to surrender to the Federation. Odo agreed to return to the Great Link permanently, and cured all the Founders.

Man - hard to believe that I last watched the show on a CRT through VHS recordings from Space station airings.
