How much does it cost to safety and e-test a vehicle...?

Is it required by law to drive around with a car that is e-tested and saftied. I know the e-test is, but what about safety(probably a stupid question). I am about to buy a used 1990 corolla GTS and want to know how much it will cost to get it saftied and e-tested. Do I need all of this done before I can get plates for it and insurance?

Thanks alot!

You need both in order to make the ownership transfer.

The cost of the tests is not too expensive you just have to watch out the cost of fixing your vehicle to pass the tests which could be significant and varies.

yay, bought my first car tonight.

A little rough body, but new engine and for 700 bucks, I cannot complain! Exhaust has that leak like I stated. My GOD Is that thing loud in the interior. That is a MUST fix forsure.

Other than that, minor body work, new paint, and an EBRAKE is all thats needed :D

The cost to bring your car up to emission & safety standards could be in the hundreds depending on what your vehicle needs. Brakes, shocks, catalytic converter just to name a few examples.

Skyline,
E-Test is a set cost across the board. No matter what shop you go to.

vip3r87,
What area you located in?
Zoro Exhaust in Mississauga is about the best place to get that leak fixed for a good price.

I believe rates for emissions tests are provincially standardized at $35. It will be the same everywhere you go.

I just bought a car -- 2010 Hyundai Accent in Toronto. The salesman told me the safety on the car costed $700. Is it possible a safety can cost so much or am I getting ripped off? Also, is there some where I can go or contact to find out if the safety was done? Any advice would be helpful.

Thank You

The test to safety a vehicle should never cost $700. The work to get the car up to safety standards may very well cost $700
