How people break into Lockers
This is for informational use only to help you protect yourself from this scam.
Recently many lockers in my school have been robbed (mine being one) without the locks being broken. Once it was reported, the school checked the cameras and found out how it was done. This information was not released to the students because then there would be a string of robberies happening but the information was leaked to me by an anonymous. Apparently they will walk around the school (usually in between classes) and look for people with there locker already open with valuables inside. Once they find there victim, one of them will go up to them and talk to distract them. While the victim is being distracted another person will replace their lock with and identical lock..it just so happens my school provides the locks for students and they are all identical..once switched they will leave and wait for the victim to put their stuff in and lock their locker with the identical lock. Once the victim leaves they come back open it, take what they want and put the original lock back on. All a person has to do is go out and buy an identical lock and switch it with yours when your locker is already open so watch out. Try designing your lock for protection.Last edited by CrazeeV; Jan 17th, 2007 at 04:08 PM.

I guess you gotta' treat it like a beverage in public - never let it out of your sight! If someone wants to talk - lock it first.
Good warning - pretty elaborate scam._______________

hint to all you people out there, when you undo your lock and then relock it, be sure to spin the dial. If you do not spin the dial, all you have to do to open it is set the dial back 5 numbers and it will open. It DOESNT ALWAYS work, but I would say about 25% of the time, which is more than enough, I know because I used to do it to the grade nines in highschool who didn't know any better.

I have about $400 worth of stuff in my locker at times. My iPod, a cellphone I'm trying to sell and my textbooks (which I must pay for if I lose). First sem (until February 2nd) I have 2 classes in the morning and then I go to co-op. My school has implemented a locker rental (pay once and you get a locker which changes every year). All the locks are the exact same style and the office has a record of your combo (they issue you the locker and give you the combo) so that in case someone wants to bring a gun they can open the locker easily.

My friend goes to Laurier and they make you get you own lock and then on the first day of school the homeroom teacher passes a card and and you must print your name, Locker Number, and Locker combo.....second day off school they were stolen from the teachers desk.

I often leave my laptop in my locker. If Im not using it for that period, I stash it in my locker. Guess I wont be doing that any more.
I think I will engrave my name or something into the lock so I can feel its mine when I lock it. But lucky the lock I got from the school has its numbers smudged soI look for it every time I lock it.
