How to redeem for single trip air ticket with Aeroplan?
Round trip air ticket needs 75000 Aeroplan miles from CA to Asia,
but I have only 40000 Aeroplan miles.
I think I can redeem single trip air ticket, checked aeroplan website,
it only shows round trip option.
Can I redeem for single trip ticket ? Thanks.Last edited by gaore; Jul 28th, 2006 at 12:18 PM.

Two years ago, I was in the same boat, and called Aeroplan for detail... and I was told 1-way ticket redemption is not allowed.
Not sure things changed mean while...

they are allowed now, but the cost will be more than just half of a round trip ticket.

I have tonnes of Aeroplan points I can't use. Wish there's a way I can sell some to you.
-
Jul 28th, 2006 03:58 PM #7I believe you can use your points and exchange them for a ticket in another person's name.

can redeem points manually for me.

transferring points isn't worth it.
if you really want 3000 pts, buy them from aeroplan at 3 cents/mile.
I believe they charge 2 cents to transfer them.
if you really need 3000 pts, just sign up for the cibc aeroclassic visa which gives 5000 for signing up and try to get them to waive the $29 annual fee.
I've done that.
for people who say they don't have time to travel, they should exchange the aeroplan for stuff like future shop or esso gc's etc.
but, your best bang for the buck are air tickets.
aeroplan has stuff like air miles now.

I called CIBC VISA, I'm currently having CIBC dividend VISA, I can not
apply the Aeroclassic VISA to get 5000 points. But if I upgrade my VISA
to Aeroclassic VISA, they'll give me 2500 points. I have two questions, thanks
1. How could you ask them to waive $29 annual fee?
2. How long did you wait to get Aeroplan points? After first statement?
Thanks again.

forget what the cibc rep says to you.
check out the cibc visa credit card promotions on their website.
Until July 31, if you sign up for the aeroclassic, they'll give you 5000 points after the 1st use.
Once you get the card, and make your first purchase, you'll get the points when you receive your 1st statement.
They'll charge you the $29 annual fee. I really can't tell you how to get it back. It's basically tough negotiating.
As for the $29, for 5000 pts, it's way better than paying 2 cents or 4 cents/mile.
But, you have to act fast.

Jul 30th, 2006 03:26 PM #15Thanks for the suggestion. I did check out the deal. It's not really good. Years ago, I traded 125,000 Cathay Pacific Marco Polo Club points for a Mizuno Golf Club set (worth about $1200 at the time). But 125,000 points only gets me a $500 dish washer thru Aeroplan.
