How is a Strellson suit?
Thinking of buying a Strellson, any opinions about it?
Thanks.

Strellson's are nice. They are a great brand that you get at the stores that carry the higher end brands like Zegna, Armani, Boss, etc. They are more inexpensive compared to Zegna, Armani, Boss, etc., but definitely considered higher end than like your Banana Republics, Calvin Kleins, Kenneth Coles, etc.
However, at the end of the day, different brands have a certain kind of style to them. So regardless of the coin you pay, it's all about how it fits on you and what kind of fit you like. As the other poster said, you definitely gotta try it on.

Just out of curiosity, how much is the Strellson suit you are looking at and what stores are you looking at?

Thanks Ken. I am most concerned with quality but something under $1000. I don't want it to fall apart after a few months.
Balpern,
$895 at Bay or Stonehouse.
I checked out Tom's Place, but they only have 2 to choose from in my size. I don't really like them. Sucks because they sell them for $550 to $700, which is a huge discount. My size is 36S.
Best,
Jonathan

Stollery's had some nice suits. Also, some discount ones in the warehouse in the basement.

I looked into getting a Strellson suit from Tom's Place a while back, but people recommended against it:

36S? are you young? still growing? If you are, I wouldn't spend more than 500 bucks. In any case, because you are a small size waiting for a sale won't work. I think most people in suits are between size 39-42, there usually very few 36S in stock even before the sales start.
If it fits, the price is right and you like the style buy it. No suit that costs more than 300 bucks is going to be horribly shoddy. You can tell by loose threads everywhere, poorly done button holes, bad fabric etc.
At 800-1200 you get the brands that rely on advertising to sell them. Not terrible but they aren't special either. Make sure the fabric is mostly wool (don't drop nearly 1000 bucks on a suit that's mostly polyester).
Unless you need it regularly, I wouldn't spend more than what you've set aside. If you never wear it the one time you need it, you'll pull out your MadeToMeasure suit that cost 1500 bucks and discover the 15 lbs you've gained or lost makes it look goofy. Or worse the moths got to it.
Again if you are still growing don't spend too much money, and make sure they leave material in the leg to lengthen the pants if you are. With the length they hem the pants these days, if you grow another inch and it will look like you're wearing Capris.

The Bay sometimes has special events and Strellson goes on sale. You might be able to save 15% off. The last event was just last month.

Yeah once you buy stuff from the W.E. shop at the Bay Queen Street, and swipe your HBC rewards card during that purchase, they start sending you coupons for their made to measure nights in the spring and fall.
The coupon for 15 per cent off all regular fall merchandise doesn't expire until Sunday. I used mine already. Maybe if you are real nice to the sales person they might extend the offer to you. Tell him you forgot your card.
:
I don't remember if the Bay charges for alterations, its been a long time since i bought a suit there.

I went to the Bay on Queen St. (West End) and looked at their Strellson suits there today. I must say the "Rick James" style is very modern, European and just up my alley. Unfortunately, they did not have the 3 piece in black, only in Navy.
I decided to actually just get a MTM suit either at Spiros orFifth on King. Since I am going to pay $1000, I might as well get a custom suit (someone suggested this on another thread).
Best,
Jonathan

FWIW, it their shirts are any indication of quality, I would avoid. I've owned a few shirts made by Strellson and I've been disappointed.
Fabric is thin and gets worn out easily. Colours dull quickly too._______________
