How to tell if my laptops support SATA III?
Someone asked the question a while back:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/soli...-sata-iii.html
Some of the suggestions were:
hwinfo32
http://www.hwinfo.com/
CPU-Z
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
So long as it's backward compatible, any reason why I should not opt for SATA III over SATA II SSD's (maybe because of the controller) even if all my laptops are only SATA II?
My laptops are not the latest and greatest and so they may very well have just SATA II or SATA I!!!
Acer C-50 netbook (A0522 I believe)
Sony Vaio FW P8400
Thinkpad x220 (2nd gen i3)
Asus U31SD-XA1 (2nd gen i3)

Manufactures documentation should tell you exactly which version of SATA is built-in but in case it doesn't then read this thread.

A quick Google search would've given you the answer you were looking for

It's HM65 for the Asus so yes it supports SATA 3:

So goes for QM67 for the Thinkpad though I'm stuck with a 32GB mSATA drive for this.

G45 for the Vaio which means SATA 2:

And for the netbook, I could decipher the AMD system components but it will likely be SATA 2 as well.
Hopefully the manufacturers are unable to track moving of SSD's from one system to another!
