You need safety cert, emission cert and UVIP (used vehicle info package) as well.

Yeah, what he wrote. But also add a safety inspection and possibly an emissions test before the registration. And when you register the vehicle, you'll have to pay PST on its wholesale value.

depending on how old the car is. If the car ain't worth much, check the black book value of the car. Remember you have to pay tax on the name transfer.

Dont know where you are. when I transfered a vehicle here in bc from me to my dad, I just had to fill out a form with him, we put the vehicle as a gift because we were family (they check the blue book value, if the vehicle is sold for less you have to fill out a form and sign it stating why its less than the market value). Then take the form into an autoplan broker or ICBC with your drivers license, they do the rest. Thats all you need to do to TRANSFER it. To insure it, then my dad had to have the emissions, or air scare test. Nothing else for us here... yet.

You can do a sworn statement for a family gift which will exempt you from the PST, but you'll still need to provide the safety and emissions cert for the transfer. Since it was just registered to her, the emissions cert should still be valid, but safety certs are only valid for 36 days so just double check the expiry on that.

BTW, the sworn statement for a family gift does not apply to siblings in case the OP was wondering.
