does it work on bell canada? I've heard bell is harder than all of the other carriers

Does it cost anything? Id rather do it for free even if it's harder to follow.

It should work on every carrier I would think..
It's a SIM you have to buy. I think It's like $30-$40?

Look harder, There's plenty of sites that'll explain how that works and If It even works or not.
Jailbreaking the phone Itself doesn't automatically unlock the phone.

You will not unlock the phone via jailbreak.... That was patched along time ago.... Bell does not unlock Iphones as of yet... There are rumours that Bell unlocking will happen before the end of the year... So you are going to have to wait it out or try a gevey sim

Here is a guide to what you can jailbreak and then unlock, easily found by doing some simple google searches.

You can jailbreak an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1.1 and lower using software but you cannot unlock it with software. Only the Gevey sim can do that or an IMEI-based unlock from a vendor. Both are also mentioned on this link. Btw, the premium for unlocked phones on Kijiji and Craigslist is only $25-$100 depending on the phone and I would suggest to anyone buying a second-hand phone that if you want it unlocked you buy a factory-unlocked one in the first place rather than trying to muck around with getting a locked one unlocked, especially if you have the urgency Gotoff seems to have.

Telus is the cheapest to unlock

Well that's only part of the story. Telus is the only Canadian carrier than unlocks 3 mos into the contract, and for $35. Fido only unlocks after your 3-year contract is over or you buy out the phone and then for $50.

Fido's unlock is mostly useless as 3 years later I'm more than ready to get a new phone and no longer need the old one unlocked.

Hi everyone,

My dad recently bought an Iphone 4 from a colleague of his and passed it onto me since he just splurged on an Iphone 5. Its locked with Koodo/Telus but I'm with Fido and plan to stick with them as I've just negotiated a plan. I'm residing in Guelph right now and there's a kiosk that unlocks it in the mall for $120. I called another guy with a shop in downtown who does a full unlock to restore to Apple factory settings but he's charging $90. Can anyone suggest something better like $50 or under anywhere in the Guelph/Waterloo/GTA region? Please pm me if you have suggestions/referrals. I'm not tech savvy either so I won't be doing it myself.

Thanks, but I'm kind of a Iphone/technology newb... I don't need to give them my phone for this? It requires me to send them my IMEI number. At first, I couldn't get pass the locked screen because I didn't have a valid SIM, but then I took it to a Koodo kiosk and they tried it out with one of their SIM to confirm it was locked with Koodo. They took the SIM out so now I can basically use it as an Ipod, but if I didn't do this, I wouldn't be able to get my IMEI number, so how would this work?
