they are both crap... ive used both and both have broken very easily.
i got em for about $10 when they were on sale at seperate times.
A and B wont work on the hip gear one. The rigth control stick is messed for the madcatz one so in menus its constantly moving around and cant be used.
I think the best bet is to find used Xbox ones i heard they go for about $20 or try e-.bay. Trust me, the 3rd party ones are a huge waste of money.
also if you are even lucky that they dont break, they feel like complete crap and totally different spacing than the S controller.

How are the XBOX MadCatz Controllers?
I was thinking of getting two more xbox controllers to have a full 4...for multiplayer games when ppl come over.....dont want to shell out 40 + tax each for 2 microsoft ones...unless madcatz or other third party ones are really not worth getting.
Whats your experience with any third party controllers? Do they break down easily?
Cheapest Microsoft Type S Controller I know: $34.99 at CompuCentre
Both of these are $19.99:
HipGear:
MadCatz:
Ugh...they look so cheazy =S......anyone know where to get decent, and cheap controllers?Last edited by SwiZz; Jan 21st, 2005 at 01:15 PM.

I agree with killuminati. I have used both brands as well, and the analog sticks on both started to "drift" after about a month of use
And the Hip Gear one I had stopped working altogether shortly after that
Stick with original MS controllers to avoid the headache._______________
Now that I know that I never knew, I can get down to finding out

A rule of thumb with video game controllers is to always buy official controllers. 3rd party controllers are nearly always crap.
I have that madcatz controller. I can't stand it. buttons are in different layouts, and the analog sticks are way too jumpy. Only one of my freinds uses it, he's gotten used to it.
As far as wireless controllers go the only good wireless controllers that I know of are the wavebird controllers for the gamecube.

I picked up a near mint official XBOX S-controller from ebay for $19CDN shipped to my door, that seems to be about the going rate if you are patient.

totally agree that 3rd party controllers are horrid. Had a mad catz controller and it truly sucked.
for people looking to buy a controller, i have 2 original size Microsoft controllers available. I'll sell one for $20, sell both for $35. Both work fine, just prefer to use the type-S ones instead._______________

I bought a MadCatz recently from BB, I don't really like it
- The vibration is significantally weaker than the official one I have
- The grips feel disgusting
- The controllers bigger in shape
- Macro? How do you use it?
- The triggers are so small and have some fine 'grip' on it
IMO, I wouldn't get one, regret buying one too.

I have the Madcatz, and straight out of the package, the analog stick started drifting. I got it free with my xbox (which came with the s-controller), so I really didn't care. I only used it for GTA:VC because it was big and spaced out like the original xbox controller so it sort of had a relaxed feel to it if you played with it for a couple of hours. But I still wouldn't recommenf wasting your money on it

Stay away
My madcatz had alignment problems. Kept wanting to veer left.
Played with it for a couple of hours that way because I was to lazy to change controllers and considered it a challenge.
It'll never get plugged back into my machine though.
Their support line must answer with "what's up cat?".

Carnage is right on. Avoid 3rd party if at all possible. Unless of course the first parties are discontinued (ie. original NES controllers!). Almost all 3rd parties have some type of "alignment problem" so you're really just wasting your money instead of saving money. It's very frustrating when you lose because you realize you were cheap in buying a faulty controller. Spend a little more and save the hassles. Plus they have a higher resale value
