How's the name Winston for a male's first name?
How's the name Winston for a male's first name? Any comments are welcomed, positive or negative.
My thought, disregard this name with any historical person.
The meaning of Winston is cool: Joyful stone. The negative: It's bit awkward to pronounce.
What do you think?

Sounds like a butlers name.
Call him Logan or Odysseus or Leonidas or Zeus.

I knew a guy whose first name is Winston. Have not been in contact for many years, but since I don't know any other Winston (except Churchill), whenever this name comes up, it reminds me of him, someone who is slim, soft-speaking, reserved and kind of feminine.

If a kid's going to be named Winston, his nickname could be Winnie. And then someone will invariably bring up and call him Winnie the Pooh. But knowing that kids are more likely to focus the crude sounding last portion, they may just call him Winnie the Poo.
I wouldn't call that bad or good since just about any name, within the mind set of a five year old, can be made fun of. Just a possibility of how Winston could be rendered "funny".
In all seriousness, a name like Winston isn't a bad name. If it is difficult to pronounce, then have Winston as his legal first name and use something similar as a nickname. Like how William Jefferson Clinton ended up being Bill Clinton (I still don't get how exactly Will = Bill in most circles, aside from sounding similar). So for Winston, he could be legally called that but be referred to most often as Will or something else.
And then, if the kid gets in trouble, the parents could always call him by his legal first name. It'll be, " you know when you're in trouble when they use the serious tone and you're actual first name."
Edit: Someone once asked me what I would think of as a good name. I suggested Winston. The kid ended up being Vincent. Name meaning of Vincent? Victory. And for a nickname, Vinny. Can't necessarily make fun of that.
