HP Computer: Opinions needed

Hi everyone on RFD I tried but I was unable to post a link..It's in this weeks Best Buy flyer..Just wondering if any of U computer experts on RFD could help me out and tell me if this is a good package as well as a good computer..Doesn't specifically say what brand or model the monitor will be..I'm just an average computer user that would be using it for regular use..Thanks for the help ..The package deal is as follows:

i love hp computer, had 4 never had problems, i got the media hp center m1160 for about that price, with no lcd so i would say yes, good price, depending on what you wanna do with the computer

HP would do the job for an average computer user, but if you want somethin ga little more, for a little more, I would go to a small computer store and get a custom built computer. THe price might end up being the same, but the parts inside would be of higher quality. Then I would get one of your computer friends to setup your computer for you. But if you do not have access to a computer friend, then this wouldnt be possible. Also, I think <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> is much better. They got better deals, and their CS is great. @ least everytime I need them they were fast and prompted.

1. No such thing as a 3300+.

2. Shared video card memory is crap.

3. RAM is 384MB after the shared video card takes its chunk, which is no good.

Even if you don't know anything about building a computer it's pretty easy to do - most motherboards come with instructions (put plug a into socket x, etc.) Heck, a local computer shop can put it together for you for $50 or so. I wouldn't ever buy a computer unless I knew exactly what was in it, component-wise.

For comparison's sake, I can build a Soltek Qbic 3901A mini-computer with an Athlon 64 3200+, 1 GB RAM, Geforce 6600GT (Asus or MSI) & Pioneer A09 DVD-RW for just over $1100 plus tax (reusing HD & monitor). Yes, if I had to buy another HD & monitor price would go up, but chances are you've already got a monitor sitting at home, right?

These computers always look nicely priced when you consider that you are getting an LCD screen with it.

HP/Compaq are able to give LCD screen cheap because of thier bulk purchasing power but you should not let the LCD screen lure you into purchasing a substandard machine especially at that price.

Do look at the machine itself though and see if it has a reliable foundation with respect to parts(brands and chipset of MB,Drives etc.) Most importantly check the warranty.

Based on a google search the limited and crappy search results seem to imply another Compaq/HP known mostly in Europe but being sold at the North American Bestbuy and Futureshop.

At least the last HP enquired about on this board from FS was listed at epinions which gave vital information for decison making but not this one.

The sis shared video like the above poster mentioned is no good. This leads me to believe that this is a cheap SIS chipset board(possibly sub $100).

The more popular and better AMD motherboards are the Nvidia chipped based ones and the Via KT600 and KT800 boards etc.

Eskynet usually has good packages with LCDs if you must get this package type. Although i found that their current AMD 3000+ system at $999 with LCD though better than the HP does cheat you on Hard drive space making their 3.0E P4 system look a much better deal.

If he had to go to a computer store he would need a OS, and if he's a average user, he probably doesnt have XP lying around, and thats 149 i think.

HP's suck, the components inside are crap, I was waiting for the part in the description to see where the huge price comes from, i.e. maybe a radeon x800 thrown in or something.

Theior IS Such a thing as the AMD 3300+, what they are is crippled 3400+ and AMD has allowed companies like HP who can buy thousands to purchase the crippled cpus to use in their system

I would stay away from HP Desktop, why dont you build your own system? it is alot cheaper and you know the parts are quality
