not that great a deal after you look at the starting price.
$1849 for this laptop and you can get a Toshiba with higher specs for $1699

i hate how futureshop jacks up the price and then puts on rebates to make it seem like an amazing deal.

Agreed. But it's still the cheapest laptop I've seen for a while.

After taxes and final rebate (mail in) = $1861
pros: Dvd-rom, 256mb ram, 14.1 lcd
cons : sdram, celeron, s3 savage video
Compared to this hpq notebook the difference in performance of an Athlon and DDR with a Radeon video makes up for no dvd or less ram (add more DDR yourself), 0.8" less screen
http://www.redflagdeals.net/forums/viewtop...pic.php?t=10665
Shipped with taxes = $1541.99 Cdn (No rebate waiting period)

I love their descriptions:
Taken from the HP Laptop page:
"Processor: Mobile Intel Celeron 120GHz"
Who the hell writes these things? Damn monkey's could use training. Reminds me of the time my sister bought a TV which was adverstised as stereo, but was really mono.. she's still waiting for her $20 futureshop credit and it's been 3 months.

Well, people like us close to the border can participate
.
Not that I'm looking at a notebook right now but hoooweeee!
The HP1201 laptop for $600US was a damn good one; esp. now that they've upgraded it to 4401's w/o asking.
14.1" XGA
XP1500+ (btw, this has Powernow! which people say is better than Intel's Speedstep)
128MB DDR (easily upgraded)
Radeon 7500
20GB drive
8x DVD (some say, it could ship with CDRW support as well).

That $699US laptop requires a two year msn internet sign up. Without it you pay $899 which approximates to $1400 CDN.

That Staples US laptop deal has 256mb of ddr not 128mb and a DVD player Cd-r/rw burner.
If you can't get broadband and are going to pay for dial up anyways the MSN deal is lukewarm.
contract is for 24 months 24 x 21.95 = 526.80-200=326.80/24= 13.61 a month for dial up. so basically yeah I see it as the laptop is really $899 with reduced dialup rate 24 month contract.
Even if you don't go for contract you have free MSN dialup for up to 6 months with the purchase of a computer at staples in USA.
