HSBC No-Fee Chequing Account
HSBC just launched a promotion for a no-fee chequing account.
http://www.hsbc.ca/1/2/en/personal/g...-free-chequing
It's a promo, but if you get a no-fee account now, you can keep it.
You do, however, need to switch to e-statements and have your payroll deposited into the account as well as pay a bill from the account. You get in branch service and everything with this account too, and from experience, they're much better to deal with than PCF.
Terms and conditions here:

Thanks for the info Guys...
So the offer is good till Sept 7, 08. But anyone know when the free chequing account ends? It sounds like a hook and bait tatic, where they get you in for say 6 months of free chequing benefits, and then who knows... they might start charging you $5/month.

Ever since I opened a savings account with HSBC, I've been bombarded by phone calls from them, selling everything from insurance and credit cards, even the same product multiple times. Very annoying.

HSBC doesn't have very many branches either. At least CIBC is in 7-eleven although I do try and avoid the 7 eleven machines.

Looking at their website it appears HSBC has a partnership with BMO, so you can use those ATMs for free.
The one thing that wasn't totally clear, is it just their entry level account that they are offering for free? Because with 12 transactions; I would burn through 10 of those just paying my bills and using the direct debit.

I LOVE PCF. Seriously, I don't really go beyond the realm of their financial services right now, so everything free is pretty much all I can ask for.

I never received any sales/marketing calls from HSBC - not once with my Performance chequing and Direct Savings.
I still keep my CIBC no-fee account (Bank@Work grandfathered in), and pay for the HSBC chequing.
Where I am in BC right now, there are virtually no CIBCs and HSBC branches littered all over the place. The fact that I can withdraw from Exchange ATMs (Vancity, Coast Capital) and BMO make it even more convenient.
