Don't talk to your spouse ;)? RFD can't answer that question
Lol. Spouse should actually receive 200 ( 100 for opening account through friends referral and 100 for referring me).

Is there a way to check which referral she got? Just want to make sure she gets both.

Referral should be labeled as "STEP BONUS" 100.00 CAD

if it was deposited the same time as yours then it was your referral

We opened our accounts on the same day. Can anyone confirm if person referring and person getting referred get paid on the same day?

Either ways, hsbc still owes 100$ for referral - not sure which one.

Here's the timeline of my and my wife's experience with this promo:

  1. Signed up in-branch for the Advance account Sep 4, 2018 (the whole process took something like 1.5 hours for both our accounts)
  2. Transferred in $5K on Sep 6, 2018
  3. Signed up for a 15-month 2.5% GIC on Sep 12, 2018 (had to be done in branch, so another 1.5 hours wasted)
  4. First payroll deposited Sep 28, 2018
  5. STEP bonus received Oct 2, 2018

Have not received the $300 Advance signup bonus, or the $100 payroll bonus, so I started a Live Chat with them today. They said my account profile is missing some information so it didn't get the "Advance" flag enabled on it (even though the account type is Advance). They're going to try to fix it on their side, but also suggested I go into the branch to get it updated.

Overall I'd say this has been a mediocre experience. I was considering transferring more assets to HSBC, but I get the feeling that they're still operating in the stone ages. If they can't get something like this right, it doesn't give me confidence to trust them for my day-to-day banking.

Basically my experience, I can't even get a call back or for the CSR to actually document conversations. It reminds me of the pains I went through with Rogers when they f'ed up my account.

Super annoying, especially since this seems to have broken Mint compatibility with HSBC Bank Canada.
Agreed. Extremely annoying. I was planning to make this my main card but may stick with Rogers.

Feel the same way. I was considering moving some money there in the hopes of getting a purdy metal card. But HSBC doesn't seem to be able to do things I take for granted (show pending transactions, set up an online account without phoning in, mail a credit card, play nice with Mint).

Anyone had any luck after messaging HSBC about missing promo? Used Live Chat twice regarding a missing 300 sign up bonus and still nothing.

Took me like 2.5 months to get my last referral bonus. Called their call centre maybe 6-8 times. Finally got in touch with branch rep to respond and escalate through to head office.

Good luck :(

Finally received the final bonuses today! Looking forward to closing my account Jan 12th 2020.

My timeline:
Nov 6th-opened advanced chq account and deposited the 5k
Nov 23rd- Received $100 Step/Referrial Bonus
Jan 10th- Received $100 Payroll Bonus (after 4th payroll deposit)
Jan 11th/Today- Received $300 Welcome Bonus

Also looks like there's a couple new 270 day term/gic offers at 2.6% (offer ends March 31st) for those looking to get a bit of interest on the $5,000 that haven't already done so.

2.5 months since you first contacted them? Their T&S say it's within 3 months so you wouldn't have had to contact anyone.

I'm already over 3 months, that's when I started to contact HSBC via chat

I contacted them WHEN the 3 month were up and it TOOK them another 2.5 months to fix it finally.

Also they don't even know their own T & S... it's been a complete headache. Glad I dont have to deal with them again except to close the account.
