Finally. First time I've seen the HTC 10 discounted in Canada. Too little too late perhaps.
Not saying this is a super hot deal, but it's still $200 off a seemingly overpriced and unpopular phone. Wish it was this price at launch. I might have bought it.

Tough sell at this price, too; Pixel owns mainstream mindshare right now and is only an extra 12-13%

I think it was on sale for the same price last month. IMO, this should have been a regular price. At $800, it's significantly more expensive than the Galaxy S7 with the trade-in last month. (I know there's no time machine-but just for reference.)

If it's around $650-700, then I might consider it.

Such a good phone, arguably better hardware than the Pixel.

Tempted.

Lol wut? Better hardware? It's not even better than s7 in anything and significantly worst screen, camera, battery life than even a s7 ....lol..

It's a generation behind the pixel and not even as good as a 6p lol

I didn't compare it to the S7...

And the only thing better in the Pixel is the SD 821 vs 820, which is a marginal increase.

FWIW, 820 is NOT a generation behind. 821 is just a speed bump and architecturally identical to the 820. Saying 821 is next generation is like saying a Core i5-6500 is the next generation of a Core i5-6400.

I guess one could argue, but let's look at the specs

Proc: Pixel SD821 vs. HTC SD820
Rear camera: both are 12MP, but Pixel has 'arguably' the best mobile camera on the market. Dx0 Mark of 89 vs. 88.
Front camera: Pixel 8MP, HTC10 5MP
Gorilla Glass: Pixel GG4 vs. HTC10 GG3
Screen: Pixel AMOLED vs. HTC10 LED
HTC microSD slot, no slot for pixel
Screen res/size: Pixel 5" FHD, Pixel XL 5.5"QHD HTC 5.2" QHD

I'd say HTC has arguably not much worse hardware. but definitely not better.

I'd say HTC has arguably not much worse hardware. but definitely not better.
Processor is a wash. Minimal difference between 820 and 821.
Rear camera the HTC uses the IMX377 sensor (same as in Nexus 5X/6P), Pixel uses IMX378 and aside from DXOMark there is not much in the way of reviews yet.
Front camera: 8MP vs 5MP, larger pixels on the Pixel sensor, but the HTC 10 has OIS
Glass: I'd rather have GG3, it is much harder and durable than GG4. Lots of complaints regarding GG4 and scratch resistance.
SD Card: None on Pixel, up to 2TB on HTC 10.
Screen: AMOLED vs LCD, depends on preference. BUT, HTC 10 is QHD (2560x1440) vs FHD (1920x1080) on Pixel
Software Updates: Obviously this will go to the Pixel, but HTC is one of the better (non-Google/Nexus) vendors out there when it comes to updates.

So you're absolutely right, you can make arguments either way.

LG G5 is half this price from Koodo on a medium tab ($15 a month for 24 months + $100 up front). Don't see the value in any of these flagships over $500 really.

Being 1 version of Android behind, and nougat update in Q4 and that's probably the last update this phone will ever see, I see this phone worth more like $600 than $800 at this point in time.

500 can't even buy a bb priv. I say 600 is reasonable. Align with LG G5 should be fair.

What Android phone isn't one version of Android behind? Winking Face Also, what makes you think that it won't receive any further updates? HTC is good in this regard; the One M8 shipped with Kit Kat, was updated to Lollipop and then to Marshmallow...

Processor is much better in the sd821 since hdr+ is handled onboard and infinite pics whereas the sd820 in the HTC 10 is unusable after about 3 hdr+ pics in a row like every other sd820 processor phone
