Humidifier installation

Hi all, I'm looking to install a humidifier to my furnace. I live in a 4 yr old 3-storey townhouse (1900 sq ft) i got two quotes so far:

Company 1: general aire 1042 for $350 tax in
Company 2: aprilaire 600 for $485+tax

I see that aprilaire is bypass type while general aire is fan based. Does aprilaire give better result? Any advise?

I don't mind paying a bit more if it does give better result. I am already feeling the dry air in my house...

The weather hasn’t dipped low enough for it to be that dry

4 year old town home in Markham should have an HRV, have you turned it on? Did you set it really high?

The consensus is that the AprilAire is a better unit. Take @BDSL advice and call Craig for a quote and installation.

When I lived in my parents old house, 3000-4000 sq ft, I found their humidifier is not effective at all. Maybe by the time it reaches the top bedroom floor, all the moisture is already low.

Then there's scales buildup, one time it leaked, tons of issues to fix.

Instead of a central system, I find just buying a basic humidifier for each room (that needs it) works sooo much better. Usually just bedrooms, so you onyl need like 2 or 3. Increases the humidity levels so quickly, when your doors are closed when sleeping. Cheaper and less maintenance too

None of these Humidifiers are fan assisted. Both are bypass humidifiers. 1042 will be a overkill as its almost 20 gallon / day.
You should go for Aprilaire 500 ( 12 gallon / day ) .

Why is it so expensive? I think I paid $150 for my whole house humidifier. Check Canadian Tire.

Its expensive because
1. Its central humidifier unlike the one you might have bought from CT
2. It needs professional installation.

if the aprilaire automatic control? IF not just get the generalaire.
Humidifier are basic systems, a evaporator pad, and a solenoid.
Deluxe versions has automatic control.
Both units listed are bypass type

Installation is super easy. I’m a noob and did it in a few hours. YouTube has tons of tutorials.
