I guess Blu-ray disc does not equal quality.

Movie: "No Country for Old Men"
Appears to be the coating on the disc. That section I circled feels like it is bubbling. What a joke. I have never had a DVD or HD-DVD look like this before. I tried it for the hell of it on my PS3 and just get the following error:
"This video cannot be played.
(80029940)"
R.I.P. HD-DVD.

Heck my Blue Dragon Disc2 had this weird discolouring on it. I was happy to be able to return it for an unblemished one at Zellers.
But it's true though that none of my HD-DVD discs have had manufacturing defects (yet)._______________
From a "Family" reviewer: "We Cheer teaches coordination, enticement to lust, women being used as sex objects, and team work."
From Worthy Playing: "We Cheer is, then, for all intents and purposes, the F-Zero GX of music games. It asks for so much, yet forgives so little. It is actually so casual that it's hardcore."

Even if the hd dvd has no defects, any scratch can render the disc not playable. ONe of my bourne ultimatum disc looks perfect, but keeps skipping and freezing on my A30 player.
BLu-ray discs has a special protective coating that will make it practically scratch-proof and from the manufacuring process, they messed this up. Just bring it back to the retailer and they will replace the movie._______________

BDs have that special coating because the data is arranged just barely beneath the surface. Any scratch, even a minor one, has a good chance of ruining the disc. HD DVDs and DVDs bury their data deeper so light scratches usually won't affect the disc.
As for the flawless-looking The Bourne Ultimatum HD DVD not working, it's a combo disc and those are known to have compatibility problems.

When i first spotted this thread, I thought it was referring to some of the really bad transfers that have been put on bluray.
My free copy of Full Metal Jacket looks awful.. even for a 20 year old movie. A Knights Tale looks pretty bad too.
Just because its blu-ray doesn't mean the movie company put any effort into its quality.
sorry to hear about your disc bubble.. defects happen, but it always sucks when it happens to you

Haha, I know defects are an everyday thing and I'm not the only one to have experienced something similar. I just wanted to take a jab at Blu-ray and maybe upset some supporters.
Of course, I exchanged it and checked the disc before I left. The new copy is immaculate.
Oh.......R.I.P. HD-DVD.
