Congrats on the interview. As for your work attire you'll be fine with that. I'm sure you'll do well just be polite and sharp
Questions you might come across:
Are you able to lift 20lbs?
Do you have additional customer service experience?

I have my first interview on Monday
What kind of questions can I expect for a grocery clerk? Also, would wearing a golf shirt, dress pants, and dress shoes do?
I meant what should I wear for the interview guys, not for my work uniformLast edited by arreat89; May 23rd, 2008 at 03:16 PM.

I would wear a dress shirt. I've noticed at No Frills, Dominions, Price Choppers, and Sobeys that everyone is starting to wear dress shirts underneath their aprons.

i wouldnt wear a dress shirt. you'll look like a fool. all grocery managers care bout is someone who can work their asses off and not **** around.
if they ask you why you want to work there say because they offer the best products at the best prices and so on.
and say you can work anytime they want. dont limit yourself and say "oh i can only work weekends" everyone can work weekends so they wont need you. dont say you can only work 1 or 2 days a week. if you sound eager and willing to work you have a better chance. also it'll help by saying you can close on weekdays.
This applies to all departments other than cashiers. For cashiers they usually hire dozens since they expect only about a half to make it through long term.

Employers at retail stores like hearing that you're bondable. If you can work every shift possible, it will give you a huge plus!

Why are cashiers always women? I've never been able to get a cashier interview even though I volunteered at a hospital with cashier duties.

It must be personality, cause they usually aren't much in the ways to look at. But then, how much personality can expect out of a 18 year old girl anyways?

Actually it's just because they trust girls more. Guys get backroom sorta jobs like stocking and merchandising. At a grocery store, the guy would get the product clerk job and the girl would get the cashier one, just how it works sadly. Girls are supposed to be more responsible and have that reputation in amongst teens.
BUT sadly with today's shallowness and whatnot (you might know what I'm talking about seeing how you've got a Ron Paul avatar), girls are just as bad, lazy, etc.

Hahaha...I can't seem to connect shallowness/girls/Ron Paul. But it also has to be about being able to lift heavy objects at a regular basis. It's pretty much the traditional roles being reinforced in the work place but this time the women are being paid.
What is the world coming to?
Anyways, good luck on the interview.
