I need a Tuxedo/Suit. HELP!
Hello trendy people. I hope I am posting in the right place.
I do not have the faintest clue about formal wear. Anyway I need a tuxedo very urgently! The only help the internet has given me is that suits are just blazer+pants+tie while tuxedo's are blazer+vest+bowtie+pants? I have an event on Monday that requires a suit but an event 2 weeks from now that requires a tuxedo! I was hoping if I could find a tuxedo I could wear it to both things. I assume Tuxedo's are very expensive so any tips or shops I should try to get the best bang for my buck would be appreciated. Please help a guy out who has no idea about formal wear!!

very expensive?? well, depends on what you mean by that. lol
I would say go to any tailor store and they do rent them. (or any bridle store and they rent them too).
if you live in Scarborough, I know they have one inside Scarborough town and inside Woodside square, Probably looking at 100-200 for renting (for good quality wear). or if you want to buy low quality ones, probably around the same price (200-300)

Lol, when people say tuxedo I always assumed it is some fancy stuff and therefore expensive. How much am I looking at if I rent? I need a suit so I figure it would make more sense to buy.

renting a tuxedo is around $100-$200 depending on the season and the quality
and there's a big difference between a suit and tuxedo mainly the details on the jacket. there's bling on a tuxedo

well, tux is not the same as suit. You wouldn't be wear it to work for example, so it's mostly for special occassion. (I would say if you have money, go for a nice tux with pants and bow, it might run you around 300-400).
but then again, nobody wants to wear the same tux to every event, so I guess 2-3 of such set is needed ideally. (1000 dollars)
or... if you go to those events 2-3 times a year, it makes sense to rent.
if you want nice wants, look to pay from low 100 to high 100 for the entire set (including vest), but they give you magazine and all that to pick one that you like.

Right, I see what you mean. Thank you for the clarification. I know for fact that in a couple months time I will need a tuxedo again. But the same people present at one this formal event will be present at that one as well. You think I would be better off getting a suit and then renting a tux for those two things?

yes. a suit can serve many purposes and you only have to change the shirt to get a "new" look while you only have one look with a tux

A tux is mainly differentiated by the satin along the lapels, besom pockets and the buttons. Some tuxes also have satin stripes along the side of the pants.
Don't worry about wearing the same tux twice: I would say 0.001% of the population owns two tuxes.
I personally hate rentals because they never fit properly: pants are usually baggy, coat is baggy and the material is stiff and cheap. However, if you are going to rental route, you usually need to reserve the tux 1-2 weeks in advance: they usually have to hem the pants and alter the jacket a bit.
What events are you going to? do they say "black tie affair"? If not, then a really nice suit may be acceptable. There are less and less events where people are going in tuxes: even weddings have been trending towards nice 3 piece suits. When in doubt, just ask the organizer.

Thank you for the explanation! The event that requires the tuxedo is a black tie affair. The one on Monday on the other hand is just like a business conference you could say so a suit would be fine. Thank you for the heads up about rentals, I will take a look today and look at both posibilities of rental vs purchase.
