Any thoughts on the i5/i7s posted?

deals are garbage, wait a few months till most laptops are touchscreen, especially wait for haswell. CES will introduce a LOT of new ultrabooks that should be a lot better than the garbage this year (3 hour battery life on ultrabooks?
)

Not looking for an ultrabook, just a good laptop at an excellent price.
What do you think of this from FS:
HP 15.6" Laptop with 3rd Gen Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD - $499.99

If you're looking for a normal laptop try the lenovo EPP thing in the ongoing deals section.
I kind of want the Samsung S9 in the bestbuy flyer, should I wait for CES?

There are two ok to good deals that caught my eye. Both are for $550 for the boxing day at their respective sites.
1. Dell Inspiron 15R, Intel I5-3210 (Upto 3.1 GHz), 8GB RAM and 1TB Harddrive (Win 8, 15.6 inch )
2. Lenovo Z580 . Intel I5-3210 (Upto 3.1 GHz), 6GB RAM and 500GN harddrive (Win 8, 15.6 inch)
I would like to have a choice between the two. Any ideas or thoughts?

If the only difference between the two is those specs, then there's an obvious winner. What is the batter life on each? Screen resolution? HDD speed? etc

Dell display WLED 1366 X 768, HDD speed 5400 RPM, Intel HD 4000 graphics, 48 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Battery (about 2 hours !!)
Lenovo display 1366 X 768 HD glare, HDD speed 5400 RPM, Intel HD 4000, Lithium Ion 6 cell 48Wh, 10/100M Ethernet (!!!)
I would prefer Dell with these specs, however I have heard users(and seen reviews) complaining(15R) about screen freeze, touchpad issues and being slow. Otherwise both look great.

Deals are pretty weak so far, since most include only integrated graphics. Anyone spot any deals with dedicated graphics card?

There is exactly one laptop smaller than the usual 15.6" that has a dedicated graphics card.
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...C-C8junctionCA
It's a very cold deal. Boxing week flyer lists it at $769.99, but it's selling right now at $749.99 and the graphics card is a dedicated card, but it's a low-end card. :\ Comes with small SSD drive though...
===2011 Boxing Day===
To benchmark to last year for laptops SMALLER than 15.6" with a dedicated graphics card (below cards are both mid-range), there were:
Best Buy ($599): http://ncix.com/products/?sku=67870
Samsung NP-Q460-JS01CA Intel Core i5 2430M 6GB 640GB 14in GT540M DVDRW WLAN BT Win7 HP Notebook
Memory Express ($549): http://www.metafore.ca/Product/Defau...ltCatID=100102
Aspire TimelineX 3830TG-6634 w/ Core i5-2430M, 6GB, 750GB, 13.3in HD, GeForce GT 540M, Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Man that really sucks. Boxing day = Flop. I might hold out until next year's 4th gen Haswell chips in April- 2x battery life and performance.

If you want to go back in time and get last year's deals, NCIX has an open box unit of the Samsung from Boxing Day last year for $5 cheaper than last year's boxing day price. XD
Here's a list of all 15.6" laptops that have a dedicated graphics card and will be on sale either online on the 24th/26th or in-stores on the 26th (eg. not including the "Boxing Day Now"-type sales that actually end on the 24th. I used RFD's tagging system to find all the 15" laptops.

Hopefully one will go on sale boxing day/week.
